Deleting Keywords from Catalog Keywords

Can you check to make sure you are deleting keywords from the Catalog Keywords section and not the Keywords section? If I am correct you have been deleting keywords from individual images but not from the keyword library.

My tools are "Metadata", "Keywords", "Keyword Library", "Annotations".

I'm going into "Keyword Library" then "Catalog Keywords".  When I started, there were about fifty keywords.  Now there are only these twelve that I'm unable to delete.

    Thanks.

    Hi Leon,

I've had such an issue when I imported my catalog from Lightroom. I couldn't delete the keywords previously assigned through Lightroom. They are still in my "Catalog Keywords" database. So, my question is : did you ever assign any keyword to your pictures using an other software ?

My workaround has been to create a new, user keyword database.

    Leon,

Do any of the images in your catalogue have those Keywords embedded in the image files - especially likely if you have jpgs perhaps?

If so that chances are that they are being automatically found every time you open the catalogue and therefore re-instated.

Also  - are you synchronising sidecar files for any purpose?

Robert, I used Lightroom years ago but am not sure if that's where these keywords were created.

SFA, I've done a filter search on my entire catalog for those keywords and nothing came up.  Is there a better way to search?  I'll have to check if the sidecar files are being sync'd.

I'm having the same problem now with a catalog imported from Lightroom, so I definitely think it is a problem related to that.

I also have the impression it is related to the presence of videos. I have no problems deleting keywords in general, except for the ones that were applied to videos and images and not just to images, even after removing the videos from the catalog, Hope this can help solving the issue.

I'm having a similar problem in my Capture One catalog.

Capture One 20 Pro Build 13.0.1.172 (881d2f5), MacOS Catalina 10.15.4

I have nine keywords that I cannot delete. When I try, I get the "The action cannot be applied to any of the selected items" message. Six of them are top-level keywords in the Catalog Keywords section of my Keyword Library, and three are nested below one of those six. I also can't change the nesting of these keywords; I get the same message when I try.

I'm certain that I'm trying to delete the keywords from the Keyword Library tool and not from the Keywords tool. I've never imported a Lightroom catalog into this Capture One catalog. I've never assigned keywords to the photos in this catalog using any other software. I have no videos in this catalog. I am not synchronizing sidecar files. As far as I can tell the keywords are not embedded in any files.

CO support wanted me to try to verify and repair the database.  The repair would pass then I'd go and run verify again (to check it) and it would fail.  At that point, CO wanted me to send in logs.  Prior to that, I found a page in their user guide describing creating a new catalog and importing the old catalog via a backup restore.  The guide stated that this process would either repair or delete any errors in the old catalog.

So I gave this a try and it worked!  It took a while to create the new catalog and almost a whole day to regenerate all the previews but by the time it finished, all my erroneous keywords were gone.  (Or I was able to delete them, I don't remember which.)

I had this problem as well. In my case the solution came with the realization that there were images in the Catalog trash that I had not deleted. Once I deleted them, I was able to delete the problematic keywords.

Same issue (using CO 20). With a library of +50000 images (all JPG exported from Aperture).

Trash is empty, I have tried to save, create a new catalog, import as described by Leon... I still face the problem.

Any advise? (I don't try to delete keywords, but to rename/merge them, but the error message is the same)

Had the same problem.  Drove me nuts.

William B's solution of checking and emptying the catalog's trash folder worked for me.
