Catalogs & Previews
ImplementedWhile I appreciate that the nature of a session means that it needs to re-reference all images in the capture folder each time the session is opened, catalogs are supposed to be archives. The references to files should not need to be checked as vigorously as they are (just listen to your disks when you select a collection or recent import in your catalog). To make these truly useful as archives, a move in the direction of what Lightroom does would be much more effective. Having both the physical files referenced and explorable while allowing the same level of organisation through virtual collections would make catalogs a more useful tool.
Also, as someone who works with sessions for jobs that are in progress and then exports them to catalogs as the jobs are done, I'd appreciate the ability to copy previews with my originals. Why is it that because I've exported my originals to a new folder and re-imported them to a catalog, I have to regenerate previews? This is a painful waste of time and resources that could easily be avoided by copying the previews with the originals.

Would the extra copying of the previews from the session take as much time as the catalog generating the previews? (I don't know, just wondering.)
Also there is the possibility that you want different preview sizes in the session and in the catalog. (For instance, the session may have been on a laptop with a smaller resolution than the desktop holding the catalog, which would require a different preview size.)

I'm talking about having OPTIONS. Of course, this wouldn't be for every situation or every user.

Hi Dylan,
Thank you for feedback on Capture One - this is always welcomed and encouraged among our users and we appreciate the time you've taken to contribute towards the development of the software.
I have forwarded your comments and suggestions to our Product Management team as something to consider in a future release.
Whilst we cannot comment on future releases, we take all suggestions on board and hopefully your feedback contributes towards a future version of Capture One.
