Shortcuts not working
Hi,
Working with Win10 and C1 20.04 (for Sony) and a midi device connecting to it thru Bome Midi Translator Pro.
When testing this setup I ran into some difficulties:
1) Viewer "Zoom To Fit; whatever I try, just the "OemPeriod" key seems to work, even when the field is empty. Is this option hardcoded?
2) the 100%; 200% and 400% do not work at all.
3) changing the brush parameters, only the Ïncrease/Decrease Brush size works. The other parameters: Hardness, Opacity and Flow do not function, whatever shortcut I use.
4) not a bug, but a request; I would very much like shortcuts for the basic color editor and cropping (not just the 'C' for cropping, but effecively crop the image by horizontally and vertically moving the image edges.
Any suggestions?
Regards,
Frans

I think you should change the title of the post to
"Problems working with an unsupported Midi Device"

No, I am afraid you misunderstood my post.
While on a project to connect the Midi Fighter Twister Midi controller thru Bome Midi Translator Pro to Capture One 20.04 I succeded in succesfully using 120+ keyboard shortcut functions from the controller.
So I understand the mechanisms and it works generally speaking OK.
First step in this process is to use existing shortcuts or map new keyboard shortcuts to C1 functions and check them with keyboard only. The above mentioned errors occur allready when using my keyboard only, mapping several different key combinations to a 'supported' function which is not working at all.
FE: the C1 default: 'OEMCOMMA' works OK for 'ZOOM To Fit' but the equally default OEMPERIOD for 'ZOOM 100%' does NOT work when executed from my keyboard.
To summarize, these errors occur without any device other than my PC and C1.

Hi Frans,
That makes things much clearer.
In on Windows 7 and running the dot 3 release currently. I happen to have my own Keyboard shortcu commands set active but they will be little changed from default as far as I recall.
- OEMPeriod does not seem to do anything on my system so I would assume it is not hardcoded BUT not all keyboards are equal! My "To Fit" default seems to be Ctrl+D0 (Main keyboard number zero) but changing that to OEMPeriod worked.
- 100% zoom works as defined in the Keyboard Shortcut Editor. 200% and 400% were not defined. I defined them and they work. I note that there are a number of different places in the editor that appear to allow zoom adjustments to be defined. I have not checked for cross functionality.
- The shortcuts for Brush parameters defined in the Shortcuts editor work for me via the keyboard. They are not all defined by default but will function if I add something.
- There is an option to define a hot key to invoke the Direct Colour editor. No idea if that would work for you having invoked it. The are options for some control over Rotation and Keystone functions but those are adjustment that are based on changing numerical value in a way that is much more obvious than would be the case when controlling a crop in terms of the way that the Crop Tool functionality is currently presented. I think your suggestion might require a totally new approach. The best way to make the suggestion would be to "Submit a Request" and create a Support Case for personal attention.
I would guess you may be on Win10 rather than 7. I have no idea if that would make a difference.
HTH.

Hi Grant, thanks for reacting.
Indeed, as stated above, I work with a Win10 and C1 20.04 (for Sony) setup with Dual monitors.
It looks like not me, but you are the one with an unsupported environment (Win7) LOL.
It is a bit complicated, so let's take 1 problem at the time:
ZOOM Keyboard shortcuts, working on PC/Keyboard only
I did some more testing and I found out the following:
1) ZOOM fit works OK
2) ZOOM 100% works OK.
and now the strange bit, copying the Default Shortcuts and just changing the ZOOM parameters::
ON a default workspace (Single Monitor)
3) ZOOM 200% work OK
4) ZOOM 400% works OK
But on my setup (Dual Monitor - Large Viewer with the Tools and Browser on screen (A) and the Image on screen (B)
5) ZOOM 200% does not work
6) ZOOM 400% does not work.
furthermore:
If I erase the entries for ZOOM fit and 100% in the Keyboard shortcuts:
On the Default Workspace (Single Monitor)
7) ZOOM fit does not work anymore, as expected
8) ZOOM 100% does not work anymore, as expected
But on my setup (Dual Monitor - Large Viewer) with the Tools and Browser on screen (A) and the Image on screen (B)
9) ZOOM fit stil works with OEMCOMMA !!
10 ZOOM 100% stil works with OEMPERIOD !!
Funny, isn't it?
So, my first question is refined to:
how to get ZOOM 200% and 400% on a keyboard working in a Win10 and C1 20.04 setup with Dual Monitor - Large Viewer?
I hope I made myself clear, otherwise, pse ask.
Cheers,
Frans

Hi Franz
I am using Win 10 and 20.04 and BOME Midi Translator for a couple of years. All the shortcuts I have assigned work for zoom, brush etc are working for me. I am on single 27 inch monitor.
I found that for me the key pads were more useful and even assigning a "Shift" key to double the usage wanted more :-)
The Layers menu consume many pads, New Layer, Delete Layer, Show Layer, Layer up/Down, Feather, Refine, Luma, Show Mask / Grey Mask etc :-)
I have now added an Elgato Stream Deck which is working very well in conjunction with the Midi.
Hope you get it sorted.

Frans,
Sounds like you are using the default Workspaces C1 provides?
Perhaps with some modifications? If so have you saved them with your own names for them or do they get overwritten with each update?
The same question for the Keyboard Shortcut definitions. Default version or modified?
The same shortcuts for each Workspace?
There were some changes to the defaults (Workspaces AND Keyboard shortcuts) for V20.
If you have previously created versions of either that were based on early defaults you may still find the previous settings are active just as they were.
In general there has been some movement away from "reserved" Short Cut keys over the most recent versions of C1. It may be that what you are working with is based on a mixture of options from more than one version - possibly with "home brewed" changes added. It would be worth taking a quick look and comparing.
You may also find that there are different ways of doing things depending on which "Viewer" option you are working through - especially possible differences between the regular Viewer and the viewer option provided mainly for second screen use.

@Ian, thanks for reacting. I use the Midi Fighter Twister Midi controller, which has 16 knobs which can rotate, shift/rotate or press. Switchable ver 4 baks. So I have a total of 64 rotary functions and a combination of push buttons and shift/rotate functions for an other 64 possibilities.
I use it mainly to reduce mouse movements and I fully agree that C1 consumes many knobs.
I can ZOOM in/out and use ZOOM fit/Zoom100% but the 200/400% don't work (in my setup)
Do you use all the 8 functions for the brush?
Increase Brush Size Decrease Brush Size Increase Brush Hardness Decrease Brush Hardness Increase Brush Opacity Decrease Brush Opacity Increase Brush Flow Decrease Brush Flow In my situation just the first 4 work, not the 2nd half of the possibilities.
Cheers,
Frans
@ SFA:
As stated above, for this testing I used two V20.04 workspaces; Default and Dual Monitor - Large Viewer.
I use a V20 modified Keyboard shortcuts file, which I save under its own name (with Version numbers added if I need to safe and change).
I started playing around with this just lately and have never used shortcut files from previous versions.
I presume that If I load a keyboard file, that THIS is working and not something else. Is this correct?
I maintain a spreadsheet where I administer ALL possible keyboard shortcuts (from 1 to ALT+Ctrl+SHIFT+Z) and the use in my shortcut file to prevent unwillingly reuse allready used combinations.
Before I start working on shortcuts, I summarize what is available and work from there, presuming THESE are the active shortcuts. Is this correct?
The only other keyboard shortcuts I got with V20 are the 3.7 default, which are so minimal that I never used them.
Can I (and if yes, How can I) differentiate between different options for different viewers? The Keyboard shortcut file makes no differentiation.
Cheers,
Frans

Frans,
The Shortcuts file in use will normally be stored if you close a session or catalogue and then reapplied next time you open it. Sam with the Workspace. So in some form the two are loosely related. So far as I know there are no stored connections between Workspace and KB Shortcuts definition file other than last used settings.
With on only one copy of C1 running at any point in time even if more than one session or catalogue is open the same KB shortcuts will be in use.Either the first one loaded or whatever you may have set it to during activity.
3.7 default is really retained for long time users who especially liked that option. I think it tied in with some of the older Phase hardware. Something like that. I recall reading about it but have forgotten the details.
So you use the Shortcut Summary output as the basis for your spread sheet? It would be interesting to know if anyone else does that.
There are some shortcuts that are used to cycle through values - notably some of the cursor tools.
The summary will present any options with active definitions. There may be more without definitions as I think you already know.
It's useful to be able to search the definition by both the function AND by the use of the keyboard keys and combinations.
The is a section for "Other" which is worth investigating if you have not done so already.
I suspect some definitions appear in different places but are in fact shared at the moment.
Also a section for Cursor Tools for which there are separate Zoom controls available.
And then of course there is the Cursor scroll wheel or equivalent.
It sounds like you use the options far more than I do so you may be more familiar with the list of functions that can have values defined.
However I have checked those you have mentioned (Except for Layer Mask brush "Flow" which I have not tried.) and they all work or can be defined to make them work on my system.
I can't think of a logical explanation for why they should work on my elderly system and not on yours. Unless it's a Windows version thing.

Hi Grant,Yes, I use the ' others' section extensively. Lot's of good functions in there . . .
This morning I rebooted my system and suddenly also the 200% and 400% keyboard shurtcuts work also in my Dual Monitor Setup. (and also with the midi controller)
I come to the conclusion that when I rapidly changed KB config files the one after the other some parameters are not cleared (like the in the Config File no more avialable OEMPERIOD and OEMCOMMA stil working in the Dual Monitor Setup) and maybe some parameters are not over written, therefore not providing a steady state to work with.
I apologize for the confusion this might have given, recreating this issue.
When continuing with this project I will restart C1 after every change and test again before opening a new issue here.
Even when rebooting, I still have the issue with the BRUSH Opacity and Flow shortcuts. Shal we continue this in this thread, or shal I create a new one?

Hi Frans,
It may be that the userconfig file (the active settings currently in use) was not synchronised for some reason until you restarted C1. (Or even Windows if the Windows "tidying up" procedure is only partly working.)
I have experienced events using Windows that seemed to be related to "cleaning" temporary/transient work files from 'memory' where it can take 2 or 3 re-boots for windows to effectively make the changes. Seems like some sort of queued changes to be saved.
My practical understanding is that a restart of C1 should not be necessary for most changes BUT that it would usually be the safest thing to do. For one or two minor changes I doubt it would normally matter but perhaps for extended work with a series of re-definitions (for example) in the Shortcuts file it might be best to save changes and restart on a regular basis to make sure that the recent changes are applied before moving on to further changes.
If you continue to experience problems getting the Shortcuts for Opacity and Flow to work (i.e. the Key based change does not change the slider positions for the regular tool control mechanism) then I would suggest you take that up with the C1 Support Team. If the Keyboard instructions work but the Controller does not apply them I think you are on your own unless another user has a similar set up.
I'm not seeing the problem and I am not using the same OS configuration nor do I have a Dual Monitor system set up. So I suspect the best I could claim would be to making some guesses about possible solutions. That's unlikely to be a very efficient way forward from your point of view. The Support Team should be better placed to help.

Hi Franz
I assigned keyboard shortcuts to Brush Flow and Opacity and they work fine for me. Keyboard shortcuts have made it through version upgrades so I am perplexed at your problems. I am on a UK keyboard for reference.
