How to replicate my LR workflow in C1 where all raw files go into one folder and processed into another

Hey, having played with C1 and watched some of the great tutorial videos, I wonder if and how I can replicate my current LR workflow.

As I'm not project focused, rather than organising raw files and finished results by date / project etc, it's easier for me to leave all raw images in one folder, and all processed images in another with one global catalogue. I then use keywords, geotags, and smart albums to allow fast retrieval of these archived shots by genre, location, subject etc.

During culling, I simply delete any out of focus raw files etc that I really don't want, and export those that I am interested in editing to a separate folder structure to support an editing workflow. This is where I believe Capture One sessions would work well. However, once I've finished a session, I'd like to import that session's resultant tiffs into the single 'processed' folder in the catalogue rather than keep them organised by group. Is this easily possible, and would you see performance or other issues with this approach. Currently, it works well for me in Lightroom with ~20k files in raw and processed folders.

Finally, as I spend a fair amount of time keywording and geotagging these images, I wonder whether ingestion would be best served by Photo Mechanic, sending the tagged selected raw images, again to a C1 session, and on completion, again importing into the global catalogue.

I'd appreciate any guidance on this approach, as I say it works well in Lightroom, but I'm looking to move away from Adobe products.

Hey Walter,

Thanks for the response. I've pondered a little and ended up with the question - what value does archiving the raw file in the Capture One catalogue bring?

Sure, I need to backup the raw files in a long term archive. And they provide a critical if transient purpose during selecting, editing, and processing a shoot, but in the medium time, they probably don't need to be in Capture One.

Therefore, this simplifies my workflow no end, which can't be a bad thing, so I'm going to run this for a while and see how it goes.

Hey, Walter,

I do frequently search and return to photos but it's generally to look at or possibly present final edits. It's rare that I'll go back to a raw file to re-process, thus archiving them in an external folder structure should be fine.
