Before/After function: compare two variants (instead of a variant with the unedited raw file)
The upcoming announced before / after function, which compares a variant with the raw file default development, is a nice addition but it is not as useful as it could be.
Whenever I compared two images, with the current capabilities of C1 20.0, it is almost always two differently already adjusted variants of the same image.

So what are you suggesting? A feature to compare two different variants side by side? How exactly would you like it to work? Slit screen of the two variants?

Havent you seen the latest youtube from them?

Yes, he obviously has seen it because he mentions the "upcoming before/after function". But he is suggesting that he would like it to have even more features.

I agree with BeO.
I have already suggested this to the C1 team - both recently and some time ago.
Meanwhile ...
Ignoring the split screen, which looks cool but about which I have some reservations when one has access to the original files (as opposed to, say, reading a blog post), simply select both variants, put the Viewer into single image mode and use the cursor keys to instantly switch between the variants.
This actually will work with 3 variants rather nicely should you be trying to work with 2 different possible enhancements from a previous point in the edit. The variants will be handled as a "Set" if the browser is active and so one can get to a nice little "loop" through the options.
Obviously it also works for a greater number of variants in the set but 2 or 3 offers some particularly good opportunities for quick and easy controlled comparisons.

Yes, Grant, that's how I compare 2 (sometimes more variants) today.
However the split screen is appealing to me (have used it in another application). It obviously would work only for two selected variants (or "original" vs. edited variant).
Comparing a selected variant with the original behind it can also be useful (that's what they are going to release) but this is nothing but a special case (and could be a specal "mode") of having a split between two real variants.
I understand that the user interface (control what the user wants to see) can be tricky, because the upcoming feature alreday allows you to select several variants from even different images.
Implementation proposal: If two (!) variants are selected (not matter what base images) and the "mode" is set to "Compare variants" (as opposed to "Compare with original"), then the split screen compares the selected variants. Same applies for the "switch" mode instead of "split" mode.
If only 1 or more than 2 are selected, then nothing happens (screen not split if in a split mode, or switch does not work respectively. though the latter can be debated).

Walter,
I know all current possibilities to compare variants. Thanks nevertheless.
I am requesting an addition to the upcoming feature, which compares a variant with the original using a keystroke to switch between them (which can be done today if you have the original as its own variant, using arrows to switch to the variant, and back), and, and here's the thing: a split screen comparison.
Whilst the switch (single image in viewer) between two variants can be done, but it uses a different shortcut than the new feature (arrows instead of x), the split view between two variants cannot.
In short: split sceen for two variants. The rest was just some details discussion, trying to make the new feature (variant vs. original) consistent with the new requested feature (variant vs. variant)

Agree with BeO that there should be at least an option to compare with the unedited picture.
Comparing with the last known (last edition) version of the file is somehow misleading.
