JPG Files Read Only

Image is too small.   Capture One will not edit any image where the short side is less than 512 pixels -- I think that is the magic number.  You will need to use some other program to increase the image size before it can be edited with Capture One.

To Add to marchyman's comment here is a link to the Release notes where a small number of file limitations are listed in the relevant section.

Smallest side accepted is 512 pixels if you want to edit.

I think basically the editor would need to be reworked to deal with so much throwaway (or so little data) and the C1 team has never felt the need to try to work at such a size.

    Thanks!

Super helpful, this was driving me insane.

Would really be nice if C1 told you WHY the file was read-only...

    Hi,

This restriction to edit is 'ok'. However, it seems it also prevent even 'Keywords' to be added/removed for any of those pictures.

Is there a way around at least that restriction?

As far as I know, there isn't. It's frustrating, because if you can add the JPGs to the catalog, you would at least like to be able to find them later, perhaps by means of keywords attached to them.

However, if you create a small sized JPG using Capture One, it can add keywords to it as it creates it just like it can for a larger one. (But afterwards you couldn't add more keywords to it or remove them from it!)

I would find it really useful to have the ability to at least add keywords, if not edit the images.

100% agreeing with you Ian. - In fact I migrated them from Lightroom which brought the keywords along and I am in the process of cleaning up...except I can't for these pictures.

The challenge to allowing the change on edit would be that it would break the "never change a source file" principle and also be challenging if that image, produced by a previous processing activity from another application, was still relevant to the image as managed and used by the other package.

One could, I suppose, introduce an "Ignore embedded Keywords"  - but would that then need to be on a file by file basis?

So many possible conflicting requirements. Perhaps the most consistent solution would be to simply suggest using an external Exif editor or creating another version of the image without any embedded keywords.

I guess that much depends on the use case.
