Full MIDI support (controllers with motorized faders)

Nowadays is full support of MIDI controllers very limited (except Tangent products) and only via keyboard shortcuts translator (one-way and very limited process). MIDI controllers with motorised faders is not possible to use compared to Adobe Lightroom (example: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VFCWoEIgU5Y). It's big improvement and acceleration of workflow with huge amount of images for many users. So I have migrated from Lightroom to Capture One and my Behringer X-Touch compact is now idle and useless. Hi Martin,
I fully agree with your request. It would be a tremendous value for C1 and the customer base.
To make it more specific the requirement to the development team would be to provide an API that allows programs to query the values of all adjustments for the current file (or any !).
I hope the development team gives us some positive feedback regarding that.

I would add that I recently got a Behringer X-Touch mini MIDI controller as well as a Arturia Beatstep MIDI controller up and running with Capture One on Windows. There is no feedback from C1 to the MIDI controllers, as a normal MIDI interface does not have that capability. But all of the rotary dials on both of my controllers work well. I am using a turn to the right as an increase to a particular C1 setting and a turn to the left as a decrease. I have all of the buttons working as well, but the button feel on a MIDI controller is not the same as a keyboard and takes some getting used to. It is possible to take an original Loupedeck keyboard and use it like any MIDI controller with C1 as well. As long as C1 has a keyboard shortcut, a MIDI button, slider or rotary can be programmed to generate that shortcut. Some MIDI controllers have rotary dials which have stops on them, which would be harder to program for C1 since you cannot query the MIDI dial for information. All of the rotary dials on the two mentioned MIDI controllers are full 360+ rotary dials. So when I open a new image, the dials do not need to be reset. I am using a third party interface to take the MIDI controller inputs and translate them to keyboard shortcuts, or even mouse controls such as scrolling.

I bought also Behringer X-Touch mini and I use it with MIDI Translator Pro via keyboard shortcuts mapping. But it's solution for hobbyist. It's like a toy, because there is no MIDI API support, so this is only one way solution without feedback from C1, so it's impossible to use MIDI controllers with motorised faders. Professional software like C1 sholud provide full MIDI support like Adobe Lightroom. It's industry standard.

I agree. Two way traffic between the MIDI controller and C1 would be a huge improvement. Not to mention a much more robust interface to all of the controls in C1, not just the ones with shortcut keys. Plus, some of the shortcut keys are very coarse adjustments and if there was a MIDI API or interface, the potential for granular adjustments should be there.

Yes and many features are not covered by keyboard shortcuts.

I strongly support this suggestion. I've recently struggled a bit with RSI making the kind of mouse drag operations you typically do in C1 bad for my hand. I use the knobs on a MIDI Fighter Twister and aside from just being more ergonomic I find it really fuels my creativity. This is bar-none the single thing that Lightroom has that I wish C1 has.
And as for the Tangent stuff: that price class might make sense for high-end video, but it's entirely overpriced for most photographers. Most photographers using knobs are using MIDI controllers. Get with the program!
Note: an easy way for devs to make more of this possible without supporting full MIDI (even though you should) would be to add way more keyboard shortcuts and be able to customize them more. For example, a shortcut for resetting specific parameters (like what happens when you double click a slider) would be very useful.0 -
Lily, and the rest of the Capture One team, this is my single biggest wish for C1, bidirectional midi support, and API hooks to tie midi controllers and/or third party software to various editing and grading parameters in the same manner that is possible in Lightroom and with Midi2LR.
I think C1 would experience a ground swell of support and adoption from power users if they were to integrate this functionality.
While I use C1 daily and weekly on set, its often relegated to a back seat back in the edit suite because of the lack of good API options for external control.2 -
I created the software to operate CaptureOne with a MIDI controller. Unfortunately, it works by handling keyboard codes. It is preconfigured for the Arturia Beatstep controller (some options may not work because you need to assign the appropriate keys in CaptureOne)

I'm currently using Lightroom with my Behringer X-Touch Compact (with motorised faders). The lack of support for this MIDI controller (either natively or through third party software) is the only thing that's keeping me from switching to Capture One Pro. It seems that I'm not the only one.
Is there any news on this? Is it on the Capture One Pro roadmap?
