Export variant to Photoshop faded
I've noticed that after I edit an image in C1 and export a variant to Photoshop CC2019 (latest version) the image opens in PS less saturated and less vibrant than what is seen in Capture One 20 (most recent update). This has been going on before the updates but Capture One tech support suggested to try the update to see if it would fix the issue. I'm exporting to a TIFF 16 bit full size file in the process recipe, uncompressed, Adobe RGB 1998, resolution 300px/in, fixed scale at 100%. The working space in Photoshop is Adobe RBG. Rendering intents are the same in C1 and Photoshop. The image was shot on a Fuji GFX 50r, Adobe RBG Raw. I am not using a paper proofing simulation in Photoshop. Just wondering if others have experienced the same

Do the raw and the TIFF look the same in Capture One?

Thanks for your response. The TIFF image in Capture One is also faded compared to the RAW image. It is the same as what I see in Photoshop

Hi,
I'm getting the same problem. I am using a Mac, OS 10.13.6, with the latest version of Capture One Pro 20 (13.1.1.24) and Photoshop CC2020 (21.2.0)
When C1 creates a PSD (or tiff) from a raw file, it looks faded and less contrasty in both C1 and when opened in Photoshop.
This only seems to be happening with Sessions currently, as images in my Catalog are opening fine.
Please could someone come back to us urgently on this, as I see that there has been no response from Ian or the team for over a month now?
Thanks.

Don't wait for a response from me. I'm only another user trying to make suggestions. I don't work for them!

Hi Ian,
So it looks as though the people at Capture One don't follow this Community!
Maybe someone else out there can help?
Thanks,
Jon.

My last contact with tech support regarding this issue was May 25th. They, of course, could not reproduce what I was experiencing. They asked me to make a Quick Time movie of my workflow/ steps in adjusting an image in C1. I did that and one could see that there was a difference when the TIFF was created in Photoshop but also when I placed the raw image and TIFF next to each other in the C1 viewer window. I have not heard from them at all!!! Unless they are working on an update, we will never know. Some kind of follow up should have been done.

Thanks for the feedback Otakar. This problem has only surfaced recently for me, but it's a big problem when I've got clients waiting for retouched images that I can't retouch in Photoshop. I'm using OS 10.13 but I've tried Capture One 20 on Catalina (10.15) this afternoon and had the same problem.
I've tried contacting them directly today and hopefully they'll come back to me asap. Will come back if I hear anything...

By the way, I would add that I was wrong when I said images are opening fine in my catalog, there's exactly the same problem there too.

Since my last post earlier today, I also sent a message to tech support and they responded by telling me there is an updated version as of yesterday, 13.1.1. They hope it may solve the problem but it was not specifically stated that way. Need to update and see if it helps

I'm actually running that update and I think it's this latest version that may be causing the problem. In fact I've tried again to edit a tif (and psd) in Photoshop and the C1 now won't even process the file to begin with. The Events panel appears with a message 'Could not process file'.
So I can't now work on these images in Photoshop at all from C1! I hope someone there is reading this but somehow doubt it. I'll try tech support again as haven't heard back yet on my last question.

Otakar, ignore last post, there was an issue with my external drive. The problem is same as before, the images are faded when tifs or psds are created.

I downloaded the latest update and nothing has changed on my end as well. I sent another message to support. The more they hear from us the more they take this seriously! ( I hope)

Let's hope so! If I find anything out I'll post it here. In the meantime I've got to go back to Lightroom to process my images, which is something I'd not expected...

Okatar, I've heard back from C1 and basically they say if you zoom in beyond 50% you'll see that images in Photoshop and C1 are the same, and this is working for me now. Apparently it's an issue with different colour spaces being used, on exporting to psds or tifs. Hope this helps? (and very pleased I've not had to go back to Lightroom btw!). Cheers.

Apologies, it's not the colour space. Here's what they said:
The thumbnail and preview are lower resolution than the RAW file and therefore display less data. When you zoom in beyond 50% in Capture One, you will see the colours shift slightly - this is because the preview is no longer being used and you are seeing the RAW file itself.
This is also how Photoshop works at all times. Hence why, when you open an image from Capture One in Photoshop, the colours look slightly different, as it is different data being displayed.0 -
Thanks for your follow up. I will have to test that out. The reply I received from tech support 2 days ago stated that it was a bug and needs to be sorted out and could not promise when it would be resolved. Here’s the reply:
Victor (Capture One)
Jun 24, 2020, 8:21 PM GMT+2Hello,
Thank you for bringing this bug to our attention, we appreciate the time you’ve taken to contribute towards the development and maintenance of Capture One.
I would consider this a bug and have already filed a report with all the details for the R&D team.
I will place your ticket on-hold and will get back to you should we need any more information on this bug report.
Unfortunately, we cannot comment when this bug will be fixed, but rest assured that it has been reported and will be looked into.
We also cannot guarantee that this will be in the next service release, but we will do our best to roll out a fix as soon as possible

Hi Jon,
I tried to make sense of the reply you received from Capture One but I am having trouble grasping what they are saying. I tried increasing the TIFF image in Photoshop to at least 50% and perhaps, it looks closer to the RAW adjusted image in Capture One. When I do this though, I no longer can view the image in Photoshop as an entire image since it is zoomed in and I cannot see the entire image on my screen. This would make editing in Photoshop difficult and when going to print, I would have to add back saturation and vibrance in Photoshop since it would appear faded

I think they mean that when you zoom into 50% in C1 you will see that both images (raw and pdf or tif) will both look the same, which they do on my system currentlyIf you want to look at a full size version in PS you can create another version of the same image by going to Window - Arrange - New window for (image...) and viewing it on a separate screen, if you have one.I imagine when you got your reply about the bug it relates to the preview issue, which I hope they will fix soon as it's certainly inconvenient to see different previews to what the pdf or tif actually is.0

I just recently had the same issue! When exported and opened in PS the images look faded and super spotty.
I changed the film grain settings and problem solved on my end. Hope this helps!
