Capture 1 and third party DAM
I've been looking at some third party DAM's. and wonder if someone could throw some insight into this. I've been reading up on iMatch, Phto Mechanic, Photo Surpeme, etc.
I'm a hobbyist photographer and use catalogs. Anyone have an opinion on what might offer the best integration with C1?
The reason I'm looking for a 3rd party DAM is for a few options that aren't there in C1 and mapping photo locations.
Thank you

Hi Terry,
I'm using Capture One (sessions only) in conjunction with NeoFinder (https://cdfinder.de) with good success. I would not call that a "tight integration" but C1 sessions are basically folders structures that allow any 3rd party DAM to properly digest your files. NeoFinder or its Windows equivalent is blazingly fast and very compatible. It also has geo-tagging features but I do not use them (https://www.cdfinder.de/guide/20/20.2/add_geotags.html). In general the DAM term is often used in different context so a personal trial is always the best approach I think.
Best regards,
Michael

Hi Michael,
Thanks for your feedback. I'v been struggling with making the catalog in Capture One work and while currently I'm successful, I can see that at some point, due to the number of images, this might not be the case.
Would you please detail how you are using C1 and NeoFinder together?
Thank you

It's a pity they discontinued Media Pro since it gave the tightest (even though not perfect) integration with CO (at least with sessions). I'm still using it but since integration is almost fully gone (I could keep it alive only for older files with an annoying workaround) and I cannot import affinity photo files due to the long file extension (and if I could they had no preview anyway) I would be interested to an alternative too.

@Christopher:
There is no tight integration between NeoFinder and Capture One. I put my Capture One session folders into a hierarchical folder structure like "year > month > session" and that's all. I let NeoFinder catalog this structure recursively with thumbnails. I can then use NeoFinder to search for photos and with a double-click I open it with the default application for its type. It also supports face recognition. Good thing with NeoFinder is that it can be used for media that is not present. So you can find images on hard drives that are not connected at time of search.
To me a DAM is only about cataloging and finding my stuff efficiently - including offline media. And about creating virtual collections of images for preparation of work like printing or web projects. Occasionally changing metadata. For this it does the work but your milage may vary.
Best regards,
Michael
