    Hi David,

This isn't the only functionality lost in 20.1. Previously, you could change a Heal layer to a Clone one and visa versa, but this no longer works. Nor can you copy a Clone or Heal layer to the other kind. It would have been nice for C1 to indicate these details in the release (or beta) documentation, but they didn't.

    • Why would CO get rid of moving a mask around? It's a very important function.  I hope that this is an oversight or that they changed the commands to do this operation.  If not, they should put this back. Now, I have to redraw the mask on other images when I could have just moved it up or down or right or left a bit.
    • I couldn't even find the release notes when I downloaded the new version 20.0.4, which used to be right next to the download button.
    • I hope the good people at CO rectify this.

Heal and clone tools have changed dramatically. I like the new tools. They are not perfect but better than the old tools. However, the old options could have been left as well. I like the idea of being able to do multiple heals on one layer, etc.....

    Abbott, David,

The entire functionality has been re-engineered, or so it seems, based on user requested feedback.

I really doubt that the changes  - which go way beyond masking, could have been successfully implemented alongside the previous process.

Even if it is technically possible, which I would question, it would surely be horribly confusing for everyone.

The heal tool seems to be a big step forward for that type of functionality.

The clone tool is decent advance but less exciting in my opinion.

Overall I have concluded that making the tools work on their own layer type is a benefit and probably a necessary change to make everything work at all.

I though the release notes, both beta and final release, made it clear that there were significant changes to discover.

Comment added to provide some balance to the thread.

Abbott - I don't think you can change a clone or heal layer to one or the other anymore for the following reason:
Heal layers used to be painted in with the universal brush. That is no longer the case. But now the heal and clone layers work separately (not from the drawing brush,) but you can now have as many heal or clone points on one heal or clone layer. and they are much more versatile and "intelligent" than before.

However, I do not understand why the ability to move a mask has been eliminated (if it has.)

    David,

You first comment about moving the mask around - is that a 20.0.4 observation as stated of a 20.1 release observation?

Running 20.1 (on WIndows) for an Adjustment layer the ability to move the mask is as it always has been.

For a Heal layer  - taking into account the functionality to auto-choose where to heal from based on what is selected under the brush - I would surmise that it no longer makes much sense to attempt to move the brushed mask but  leave the automatically created selection point.

Indeed I suspect the way people will be using the brush - based on the videos I have watched from the experts in the area of retouching who are enthusiastic about the new development, the option to move a mask would be redundant as delete and repaint looks like it would be faster and more useful anyway.

However, let's see how the responses to the user experiences develop.

Whatever the designer and developers come up with there will always be people who see things differently - as was the case when the original layers with heal and clone were introduced iirc.

Hi there... I found (maybe you too already) that via Mask Visivility Settings and by selecting Display Selection Points you have the addition of the center mask point in the image to move the mask.

Hi, seems that it is not possible to move a clone (!) mask. Best

I just did it, maybe you have to go and connect again the option Display Selection Points (MBP15" 2018 Catalina).

Or your're talking about the 'end arrow' on a clone point, aren't you?

I think Lars is talking about the area that is shown in red if using the "Show Mask" setting.

With the V20 revised functionality for Healing and cloning the "mask" areas are more like Brush implementations that they were previously. So if one wishes to change something one needs to pains and erase rather than move the previously "painted" area.

If not of the current area is requires the easiest thing to do is erase the painted area and repaint. There is a sigfificant difference in concept between Healing/Cloning and other adjustments. Especially in the case of healing where a degree of automated assessment and blending is being applied.
