Import tool options
ImplementedI currently use Breeze Systems Downloader Pro to read images from a memory card into my computer. I then import 'blindly' into CaptureOne, without modifying the filenames and then add a UserStyle to the pictures. A long-winded and tedious process.
With Downloader Pro I am able to generate a filename based on the file NUMBER of my image file. So if, for example my image file is named IMG_nnnn.cr3, I can use DownloaderPro to save it in a folder based on the date the picture was taken (say yyyy/yyyy_mm) and then rename it to BG5_yymmdd_nnnn.cr3. The latter filename transformation does not seem possible in CaptureOne. I have tried various token combinations, but it does not seem possible to isolate just the 'nnnn' part of the original filename. If I could do that it would be possible to import directly from the memory card into CaptureOnhe with the UserStyle added automatically at import time. The tokens provided seem to allow only for the WHOLE original filename, and not just the numerical part, whereas Downloader Pro's token syswtem does permit this.
Is there any possibility of adding such a token to a future release?

Michael,
I assume the name change from CR2 to CR3 is just a typo not a requirement? ;)
Personally speaking I have wondered about this sort of renaming for several years but find that the prefixes help me, in my situation, identify which camera is likely to have been used simply based on the ex-camera file name. Having a 1D with an in-cameras prefix definition option helps. And of course the prefix can identify the colour space used for the jpg interpretations.
If renaming everything except the number of the file 0 and given the potential for the same number to appear on more than one camera in the same shoot or for the counter to roll over and restart, I think many would be inclined to simply start the numbering from one each day or each shoot or just scrap the camera number on import and renumber using the token system.
However I have some sympathy for your requirement and provided that the manufacturers always stick with 4 digits and the same file format it might be quite easy to provide a token option. A little more complicated if one allows users to slice and dice existing names on the fly.
Meanwhile the only option would seem to be using the full name and then deploying C1's batch rename facility on the files to find and replace the unwanted prefix.
It's an extra step but quite easy to set up and run and, in my experience, is fast. It also keeps all related files and links for that file name updated.
I'm not sure how different that would be to what you do with Downloader Pro at the moment.
I assume you are using a catalogue rather than Sessions? If using sessions the import process would not be necessary if you had already transferred the files from card to disk. What does the User Style do? Is there a limiting reason (other than time) that it cannot be applied during the import to C1 after the download from card using Downloader?

I am using sessions. I could continue doing as I do at present, but doing it in one step directly from memory card into C1 would save a step on adding my "basic user style".
... and yes, the CR2/CR3 was a typo, which I have now fixed!

Ha - managed to create my own typo on the CR2/CR3 comment! Also now fixed.
I agree about the one step if you prefer to import and use the naming and apply the style. That's what I do but I leave the Camera file prefix in place.
If I wished to change that I would used the additional step of renaming the batch. It's quick enough, in my experience, to be what I would class as a minor disruption especially as C1 will create an Album for the imported files automatically making them very easy to select. The enhancement you suggested would be better but renaming can be lived with - as I sometimes do when I decide to change a part of a "name on import" choice after starting a large import run.

Hi Michael,
Thank you for your post.
Naming images that way is possible when shooting tethered as the Camera Counter token is available for image naming.
When importing images from a memory card or renaming them afterwards with Batch Rename, the Camera Counter is not available there.
Thus, I will forward your suggestions on the topic regarding the ability to parse the image file name or using image file number as a separate token.
