Multiple Issues with Capture One 20 version 13.1 Upgrade

Your workspace problem may be similar to the one mentioned in a recent thread. I had a custom workspace problem as well and solved it by starting from scratch and manually recreating and saving the workspace. Irritating to have to do, but it solved my problem.

I haven't encountered RAM issues, but my machine has 64 GB and I rarely do more than a dozen heal or clone operations on a layer. I often remove fairly large objects and sometimes have to use several source points to accomplish it. If you're removing lots of small imperfections, you may have different results.

I've noticed that 20.1 release performs much slower on all of my machines than any of the beta versions did. I don't know what the engineers did, but hopefully they'll sort it out and issue a bug fix before the next major update.

Your experience with the support request may be an indicator that a lot of people are finding issues with this release. I know I'm seeing a lot more than in the last beta on my Mac Pro. Let's hope that they're heavily involved with problem solving.

I've filed several bug reports as this seems to be a super buggy release and I'm finding it impossible to use commercially... This is one of the recent reports I filed highlighting some of the issues I'm experiencing.

Ironically I'm also unable to run the Get Logs feature in the current release as it simply times out, even after extending the duration so I can't even send in a crash report to support to help identify the issues...

I’m running the current version of Capture One Pro 20 version 13.1.0.72 (881d2f5) and I’m experiencing what appears to be a range of bugs. It’s difficult to know specifically but most ‘appear’ to be related to the new Clone and Heal tools, though this is only based on the issues happening whilst using these specific tools. Equally some of the issues could be non-tool specific.

I’m running Capture One Pro on a MacBook Pro “Core i7 with 4 cores) (Retina, 15-inch, Mid 2015) with 16GB RAM and AMD Radeon R9 M370X 2GB and Intel Iris Pro 1536 MB Graphics.

I’m running a ’Session’ with multiple folders which was originally created in Capture One 11 where I experienced absolutely no issues. No adjustments were made to any of the images within Capture One 11.

I have updated all the images in the session to use the Capture One 20 engine.

All images are RAW NEF images shot on a Nikon D750.

    ISSUES

Increasing and Decreasing Brush Size Keyboard Shortcuts

Quite often when editing an image the keyboard shortcuts for decreasing and increasing the brush size, namely [ and ] stop working. This affects all brushes, i.e. the draw mask brush, the erase mask brush, the draw cloning mask brush and the draw healing mask brush.

Once the keyboard shortcuts stop working for no obvious reason, the only way I’ve found to overcome the issue is to right-click to display the ‘Brush Settings’ panel. There is no need to make any slider adjustments using the panel, simply displaying the panel and then moving the mouse back over the image to hide the panel then allows the decrease/increase brush keyboard shortcuts to function again.

There is no fixed pattern for when this happens but it happens consistently. The issue has also been posted by another user in the C1 forum.

    Masks Failing to Load

The bug fix list for 20 (13.1.0) says that the release fixed an issue where masks failed to load and were replaced with empty masks. I’m still experiencing the exact same issue consistently after making edits with the new heal and clone tools resulting in hours of work being lost because the masks suddenly fail to load.

I’m not aware of any way to force the masks to reload, so I’m left in a position that hours of work are lost.

I am left with a .comask file in the 13.1 settings folder, along with a .comask.backup and a .comask.backup_1 file every time this happens.

    Preview Images Blurred

Capture One is reaching a point after editing using the new clone and heal brushes where the image in the viewer window no longer refreshes correctly, leaving it permanently blurred. Clicking on a different image in the browser results in that image also appearing blurred in the viewer window. Thumbnails are not affected. The only solution is to Quit Capture One and reboot.

Display Heal and Clone Arrows Keyboard Shortcuts

I have my own set of Keyboard Shortcuts set and selected in the Keyboard Shortcuts Panel. Regardless of the keyboard shortcut set for ‘Display Heal and Clone Arrows’, it doesn’t ’stick’.

Once set it may work briefly but then all of a sudden the keyboard shortcut stops working and when you go to the ‘Edit Keyboard Shortcuts’ panel again, the previously set shortcut text entry box is blank and has to be reset.

I’ve tried this using numerous different keyboard shortcuts and none stick.

When the keyboard shortcut previously set for ‘Display Heal and Clone Arrows’ suddenly stops working, returning to the ‘Edit Keyboard Shortcuts’ panel again and entering the same keyboard shortcut as before displays a message in red text at the bottom of the panel to say ‘(whichever key was used) is used by ‘Display Heal and Clone Arrows’ and will be reassigned’, so Capture One recognises the keyboard shortcut that was set but it simply no longer displays the keyboard shortcut in the text entry box and the keyboard shortcut also no longer functions.

Again, there is no fixed pattern for when this happens but it happens consistently.

Heal and Clone Brush Source Points

I’ve experienced several instances of heal source points appearing on an image that I did not create. The heal points appear in a completely different area of the image and are in no way related to the areas I applied the healing brush to, e.g., I was healing areas of green grass, but non-related healing points appeared in the blue sky of the image pointing to blue sky healing areas which I didn’t create.

I’m also experiencing the occasional issue where a heal and/or clone mask is being created on a different layer to the heal or clone layer it was drawn on and the layer selected in the layers panel. This results in having to delete the mask created from the affected layer to allow the heal/clone to be applied correctly on the respective heal/clone layer.

I’ve also experienced an issue when trying to delete individual heal/clone source points. Selecting a single source point so that it and only it, appears orange and then clicking the backspace key on the keyboard deletes ‘ALL’ the source points on the image and as a result also deletes the respective heal/clone layer in the layers panel.

Thank you so much @Abbott Schindler for that information. I will try rebuilding my Custom Workspace again.

Yes my issues arose because I was trying to remove too many small imperfections, it just slowed my system to a stall and then completely stalled it, I tried to remove the layer nothing worked & my image that I was working on just blurred out.

Yes the latest update the performance is really bad compared to the older version I am regretting doing the upgrade because it has slowed down my entire workflow.

I do hope the Capture One Team comes with a fix if not they will be losing a lot of customers they gained,  I might have to move back to my old editing softwares, considering this a bad investment.

Thank you so much Simon Glenister for that detailed report.

You are absolutely right a lot of the new problems seems to range around the Clone & Heal Functions, Its dismal.

I hope they tend to all of our issues. This upgrade seems a disaster.

    Hey Everyone.

Having similar issues since upgrading to 13.1.0.172. Use iMac running Mojave 10.14.6

The biggest issue is Adjustment layers. Randomly my adjustment settings will disappear, but not on every image that they were applied. Or the settings disappear but are still applied but not editable. Copying and applying adjustment setting does not always work as well. A lot of this is random.

Also, my custom workspace reset. I found that happened with the previous upgrade as well.

    Hi Steve

    Good day to you.

Yes that is very annoying, I am facing similar issues as well. I have stopped working on the 13.1.0.172 version.
It does not invoke any confidence sadly, I cannot risk my clients work on it.
