Beginner with questions
For more than fifteen years I've been dreaming of a digital back to bring my old Hasselblad 500C/M and Technika large format cameras back into use. They've principally been not used because the mechanisms for film winding need attention and I'm only an amateur photographer.
I have the ability to purchase a used H20 16megapixel back, and I have some concerns that I need assistance with.
Firstly, it's firewire. I was wondering about Firewire to USB 3 converters. Hopefully someone has some experience of this.
Secondly, licensing. Should I expect a license for Capture One Pro to come with the back?
Thirdly, operating system. My primary operating system is Linux and I utilise virtualisation and other mechanisms to run older Windows software. I also do have one Windows 7 machine, but I note that the OS listed on the H20 manual is XP.
I would be most grateful for people's advice on the above points as I would love to bring these old cameras back to life again and have been waiting years for a digital back to come into my meagre amateur budget.

On the 1st question on firewire, you could consider some type of conversion but probably only Phase One can give you any sensible advice on this. You can post this question on this forum: https://forum.phaseone.com/En/viewforum.php?f=4
I read that you have a Win7 machine. Put a firewire card into that machine and you are ready. See also point 3.
2. Capture One licenses are registered on a user, not hardware. You can register for Capture One for Phase One license. It is free for Phase One back owners.
3. With virtualization, you introduce another unsupported complexity to your hardware setup. Firewire is never virtualized as far as I know and tethering over USB does not seem to work virtualized. This is my experience. You'd better of with a second-hand MacBook with firewire or use your Windows 7 machine with a firewire card.
Please be aware that the H20 (still a great digital back) is obsolete, which means that no spare parts are available in case you need repair.

I discovered the other forum shortly after posting here, so I have posted the question there also.
The win 7 machine is a small unit and doesn't have expansion for an internal card.

I'll look in to a second hand Mac, but if that was not possible (they hold their value) is there a Firewire-USB converter that you would go for?
Only obsolete units will be in my price range, so I know I'm taking a chance against older units.
