Bad colours when printing with ICC profiles within Capture one pro 20.
With the current version of capture one 20 (build 13.1) I cannot print a proper image when using an ICC profile.
I only get a proper print when exporting the file from C1-20 and print it with Epson print layout or Affinity photo. In both instances I use the correct ICC profile that I created with the Xrite I1 studio and print colours look spot-on.
I can ONLY get a good print within capture one if I let the printer manage the colours. It means I switch of colour management. As soon as I then use a profile (from Hahnemuhle or my own) the colours look VERY orange and overall way too saturated and dark.
Before this version it worked all fine. Anyone experiencing same problem?
I use a calibrated Eizo monitor (with built in calibrator)
I updated the latest epson 3800 driver. Apple Mac Catalina 10.15.5

Make sure that you're actually using the right profile, as C1 can 'forget' settings.
Make sure that you're using the correct Epson driver and not the faulty Apple Airprint one.
Also, are you using 'Soft Proofing' in C1? To your actual Printer Profile? I find it works reasonably well, better than Affinity but not as configureable as PS or LR.
https://www.colourphil.co.uk/printing-mac_colour_problems.shtml
I've found that C1 printing is better than that from Affinity, as Affinity on a Mac uses Apple's 'cut-down' printer interface, like an Apple app. would, which doesn't allow all the Colour Management options.
You may want to look at Qimage One or QTR Print Tool if you want an absolutely accurate Colour Management printing app. Both better than either Affinity or C1 for printing.
How to use Print Tool:

I've seen this issue from version 11. Actually, as said by André, the only way to get a good print using the C1 printing module is to let the printer manage the colours, but telling it to use the good printer/paper profile, instead of the one the printer uses by defect.
In addition, I would say that the C1 printing module is not that user-friendly, as is the one of Photoshop or Lightroom, for instance. Printing from the C1 printing module by letting C1 manage the colours is a real challenge for me !

Indeed Robert, that is what I have to do in Capture one. Letting the printer manage the colours but making sure I use the right paper type setting. In that case I get good prints (but I want to use the profiles)
What tells me that there is something wrong within Capture one is that the files print absolutely fine in Epson print layout or Affinity. In these cases I also use exactly the same ICC profile. No issues here. And as Philip already mentioned I know that Capture one sometimes forget things so yes I make sure I use the correct ICC profile in the print window within capture one. A proof with the actual ICC profile does not show what I get on print. The image on the screen looks perfectly fine but when I print it is far off.

Hi Andreas
I'm in contact with Support to find out if we can resolve this. Once it is cleared I will update this conversation.
I have an epson 3800 which is essentially the same as a P800.regards Andre

This is how my prints look like when using the ICC profile within the print dialog in C1.
When using Epson print layout or Affinity photo all is absolutely fine. The problem is within C1. Before this latest version it all worked fine.
regards Andre1 -
The data send from Capture One 20 to the Printer has the Coted FOGRA39 Profil assigned instead of the selectet on.
This is not relatet do the printer driver. The same with Canon.Best Andreas

The source file I use (see above scan) has a assigned Adobe RGB profile.
Also print output from my Leica Camera or Nikon D850 is printed incorrect (raw). The colours are much too saturated and overall the print looks dark as in the above scan. Yellow becomes kind of orange.
In all other applications printing with the ICC profile for my printer works fine.I tried Xrite i1studio custom profiles as well as factory profiles from Hahnemuhle.
Still trying to figure out what could be the issue.Regards

Hi Andre!
I tried C1 12 today, the same bad result :-(. So maybe it is related to MacOs?
So I thought what about pulling the pdf file from the Printer an render it with Photoshop. The Photoshop prints get rendered with the applied profil. The C1 one files in CMYK.
But this is only related how the Template works. I took a closer look with preflight tools in Acrobat. The only thinks that is strange. The C1 shows a CMYK Profil, the Photoshop files the selected profile it was Printed with. When only render the Image with PSD than the right profile is assignat and both files look similar.
i was arogant and thought i could solve the problem.
I also have the problem that sometimes C1 20.1 PSDs are not created in Adobe RGB.
I hope there is a solution.
Thanks have a nice evening - Andreas0 -
Hi Andre!
I found a solution that works for me. In my case it looks like "Vendors Color Management" stays activated. I changed the default Setting to ColorSync, now it seems to work.
First Enable CUPS Web-Interface
Short.... Terminal: cupsctl WebInterface=yesgoto: http://localhost:631/printers/
https://help.hikeup.com/portal/kb/articles/enabling-cups-printer-interface-for-mac
Go to http://localhost:631/printers/? >> Select Printer >> choose - Set Default Options
I changed the sttings to ColorSync Matching.
The Printer Spoolerfiles are stored here: /private/var/spool.

Hi Andreas,
Yes, I know that choosing "managed by printer" in the C1 print dialog gives the possibility to print via "colorSync" mode and only then choosing the right profile. Indeed this works but it is no the way it should be in my opinion.
I hope to hear from C1 support. Maybe it is related to OS. I'm not an expert in that field.

Andre

Hi Andre!
I know my english is not the best. You misunderstand my statement. I am always talking about printing with a ICC Profil chosen by C1 like that:
In the Printersettings it Looks like this:
Than I looked at the Files into /private/var/spool and figuart out that CM by Vendor was still Enabled. If i change this setting in CUPS in my case it works - With the ICC select in Capture one.

I'm having the same issue with Capture One Pro 12 and posted about my experience in a separate thread. I didn't have an issue until updating to Catalina OS X 10.15.5 as of today. Very inconvenient to have to export a tiff out to Photoshop considering Capture One Pro has what I consider to be a nice printer interface for layouts.
Any help or insight would be much appreciated.
@andreas your insight seems helpful but I'm having difficulty discerning the details. I'm not a programmer by trade – any shortcut you can offer would be a huge help.

I have the same issue with Capture One Fujifilm 13.1.1.24, macOS 10.15.4.
Printing with the same printer ICC profile and 'relative colorimetric' rendering intent produces inaccurate colors and overall darker image in C1 than in Photoshop.
The only thing which works is, as was explained above already, selecting the 'printer manages colors' option and choosing the ICC profile in the printer dialog.
Annoying.

Hello, same problem and same workaround with Mac Pro 2013 / Capture 13.1.1 and Canon iPF Pro-1000
I think we need a bug fix.

I have a similar problem with printing to a Canon Pro-100s.
Further up in this thread, Andreas Neureiter mentioned that the data sent to the printer actually has the Coted FOGRA39 Profil assigned. I'm wondering, how did you figure that out? I'm new to debugging printing but not afraid of a command line :)

Not sure where the confusion about 'FOGRA 39' is coming from as it's a CMYK profile for OFFSET litho and nothing to do with Inkjet printers. Inkjet printers absolutely can't work properly with CMYK, especially when it's for an unrelated printing technology!
The test image shown appeared to be one designed for commercial printing. There are many out there designed for normal inkjets in RGB, such as:
http://www.northlight-images.co.uk/printer-test-images/
You should also use such 'standard' RGB test imges to test your monitor calibration settings, which may not be optimal for some applications.
I too use an Eizo with built-in calibrator, which has the advantage that it can store several different calibrations. I use completely different brightness settings for PS (85cd/m2) and C1 (60cd/m2), finding that C1 displays the image much too light compared to the print. Its 'Proofing' lacks the 'Paper Color' setting of PS and LR. Affinity is no better.
It's also very easy to loose settings, such as Profile, Rendering Intent, Black Point Compensation, Page Orientation, Printer type, etc. LR stores these very well.
I find that, with those limitations in mind, C1's printing is useable, but very far from ideal, especially considering the price! I haven't seen it change in any way from version 10 to 11 to 12 to 2, macOS 10.12 to 10.15, good or bad, apart from possibly some minor bug fixes.
Cheers,
Phil

I only want to print postcards that contain the picture title as a signature and the colors shut be consistent like in every other software. How great it would be if this could be achieved with just a few clicks (save settings).
Unfortunately this is not possible - so I gave up.
Work - around: Printing works if you create a printer CUPS and deactivate the color management of the printer software. But after an update of MacOS, everything starts all over again.
I find It very sad that Capture One has not been able to print with ICC profiles for years, on MacOS. With ON1 Photo RAW, Lightroom, Photoshop, Epson Print Layout, Affinity Photo, etc. the results all look the same - no waste of Paper and Ink.0 -
The same issue with C1 21 :-(.

Am a new user who found himself having problems similar to those described here. I was getting more artifact than image in my prints and my exported TIFF files. Eventually found an article (https://support.captureone.com/hc/en-us/articles/360002404937-Troubleshooting-Hardware-Acceleration-in-case-of-viewing-processing-exporting-problems) that attributed some of these kinds of problems to having, in Capture One, hardware acceleration switched on when the computer doesn't have a sufficiently powerful graphics card/GPU to support it. Which I don't have.
As recommended in the article, I switched off hardware acceleration (Edit menu -> Preferences -> Hardware Acceleration; set both types to "Never") and everything became easy. I selected, in the Print dialog, the .icc profile for my Ilford paper, set "Mode" (this is an Epson printer) to "Off (No Color Adjustment)" and it all worked.
Hope this solves someone else's problem.

Same problem here with Epson P700 printing from Capture One 21 and after having to pay a professional to calibrate everything with monitor and ICC profiles. I tested printing from other apps and it clear is a Capture One issue. Very inconvenient for file and workflow management. I submitted a request today.
