Printing From Capture vs. Photoshop – Capture Prints Look Unmanaged
I'll try to keep this as brief as possible – I'm hoping it's an easy issue.
Epson P800 / Mac / Calibrated 10 bit HP Dreamcolor display / Capture One Pro 12
I print a lot of postcards for promotion/fun with Moab matte double sided papers (Lasal and Entrada) – image one side logo on the other. I've never had an issue printing with Capture and the Moab ICC profiles and I prefer the print layout interface over Photoshop. Plus, no exporting Tiffs!
Tonight, I started printing 4x6 Moab Lasal Luster 300 to switch it up and the color looks unmanaged (awful). No reds or greens, contrast too high – all my settings were the same as my Moab matte prints with the exception of selecting the appropriate luster profile, luster profile soft proof looks great, and luster paper handling setting in the Epson driver – color managed by Capture One. Switch to Photoshop for an A/B test, use the same Epson driver settings and the same Moab profile set in Photoshop and voila – perfect print.
Is there an easy answer to what I am doing wrong? Is it fair to blame Capture on this? I'm not new to printing or color management but I'm well aware of the learning curves we all go through with hardware upgrades and navigating different softwares. The Epson P800 is newish to me but I've printed hundreds of prints on it and I felt like I had all my settings locked down.
The only difference from the norm is that my Mac fervently insisted I upgrade to OS X 10.15.5 Catalina and I finally did so. I restarted the computer twice during my troubleshooting – no dice obtaining good color prints via Capture.
Thank you!
