Delete/Remove Multiple Images

Sorry to post such a simple question, but I've tried to find this answer for too long.

How do I delete multiple images at the same time?

All the images are referenced, they are not in a catalog.

I've tagged them Red and now I want to not only remove them from the Catalog (as referenced files) but I also want to move the images to the System (Mac OS) Trash.

Not matter how I try to do this, I can only delete one image at a time.

    In the toolbar, there is a button that looks like three stacked rectangles. If it is not activated (grey) then you will only delete one at a time. If it is activated (orange) you should be able to delete all selected images together. (Though I use sessions not catalogs, so I am assuming that will be right using catalogs too.)
