Discussion - What about Bridge ?

    I don't use Bridge.

However, I still use Adobe Bridge to:
    - Quick browse my files, especially exported files.
    - Look at memory cards or USB sick from customers, partners or friends...
    - Check metadata
    - etc...

Can't you do all of that with your operating system's tools? I do.
This would be great and I could get rid a bit more of Adobe
    .
Great - so now we know what you want. Got to tell you - it's hardly a persuasive argument.

What's in this for those of us who happily use and appreciate Adobe software?

I truly do not understand threads like this: "let's get Phase One to throw limited resources at the development of some unnecessary, niche "solution" to a problem that doesn't really exist, purely because I have a personal bias against a particular software company..."

If you don't like Bridge, just stop using it. Use your operating system instead - it'll do everything on your list, and no cost to limited Phase One resources that could be expended on something useful .

There is absolutely no need for a Capture One browser.

    Thanks for your constructive input.

Well, I do feel the need. At least, in my daily workflow, I really appreciate such pictures-oriented file manager.

The OS can indeed, copy/manage files, but does it badly when it comes to pictures. There, one need filtering based on metadata, nicely showing the pictures, showing the metadatas, etc...

I am using Bridge right-now because there is no alternative (I am aware of). Unfortunately, there is no way to buy upgrade for Bridge, as a result, new camera's RAW won't be supported, making it pretty useless in a few years from now.

Moreover, CaptureOne Browser may also be an add-on/extra software. If people pay some bucks for it, PhaseOne may get new customers and pay the development. Most of the code is already there: RAW's engine, browsing, bit parts of the UI, etc..

Just use any OS tool for broswing images in OS, and pretty interesting Preview and Spotlight does a desend job for replacement of Bridge.

Currently I was able to build own tool to do media import from flash drives and importing it into structured by dates catalog.

While I wouldn't mind better and more DAM features in CO, I don't really see a need for something as Bridge.
There are some low cost solutions available for what you are asking for if all you want is to get away from Adobe. Since this is a PhaseOne forum I am not going to promote other products here. If you search for OSX photo management you will find some options.

Forgive me if i'm not reading your thoughts correctly.

It seems to me you could do all of that in Sessions. Its not part of the catalog and you can browse files and disks, check metadata, etc. And its all done using the C1 rendering engine (obviously).

You can create a default session, just don't import anything.
Browse your folders in the first tab. If you insert a memory card, it will show up in the folder structure.
    Just an idea.

    Glad that helped.
BTW, I am reintroducing myself to bridge and have to say there are things i'm really liking about it, but also things that aren't so great.
At the top of the list is the inability to export directly from Bridge to jpeg. But I loved how one could open a file directly into ACR, and it keep those adjustments.

I like the fact you can quickly applied some adjustment, export, test stuff, quickly view, etc...

Browsing using a session is already not bad... Hoping it will get better.

For example, C1P used to create a bit anywere "CaptureOne" folder.
