Importation between Capture One and MediaPro impossible

What operating system are you using. I assume that you are on a Mac.

I am using the Windows 7 professional 64; but I am using CO 6.3.4 (not 6.4) and the latest Media Pro (
Version 1.1.0.52546). This transfer works very well for me ; the Windows version of CO says "Add Folder to Media Pro Catalog", and I have never had a problem.

Shame on me but, no, I'm on a windows XP.
The extension of my files are CR2 (from an EOS 5D).
I'm used working with a network disk, but I've also tried with a local folder with the same problem.
The thing is that I've tried very few time ago to import folders from 2008 to 2010 and no problem with this transfer. And now, with two folder with at least 40 pictures (woooow) This seems to be impossible.

Is Mediapro not fully compatible with XP or with CR2 (this second suposition seems totaly impossible)?

For info, my raw files are about 30MB.

What happens if you import the 40 CR2 pictures totally separately in MediaPro?

I experience a couple of problems with a mixture of various RAW files during import in MP. After changing from P1 rendering engine to WindowsImagingComponent (WIC) and FastPictureViewer Codec in both C1 and MP everything was fast and perfect. The drawback with this WIC is however the missing update of C1 modifications in the previews of MP.

There are indeed a couple of issues between C1 and MP. It took me some time to identify and meanwhile I am using IDimager and C1 for DNG files. I use MP for all other media files but no longer for any digital images from my cameras.

I recommend to you to write some SW and HW information details in your personal signature.

I'm not sure to understand everything. I've seen on a tuto that it was advised to use PhaseOne rendering engine. But, what is C1 and FastPictureViewer Codec?
What do you propose as change to try solving my problem?

    Thanks

what is C1 and FastPictureViewer Codec?

    C1 = Capture One

The FastPictureViewer Codec is an aditional piece of software (Windows only i believe) you can acquire here:

It is not expensive and it alows you to handle lot's of RAW files more easy than without it (the lazy explanation 😉 ) and MP (Media Pro) uses it when you choose the WIC (Windows Imaging Component) Codec. (In MP go to Menu/Edit/Preferences/Media Rendering. There choose Windows Imaging Component under 'Prefered Engine'.
Maybe it's nececary to rebuild your images but i'm not sure.

How you can choose another rendering engine in C1 i don't know because i'm not using it.

First I also followed the online video at www.youtube.com/watch?v=xFcC53K7QfY about best MP/C1 workflow, which recommends to use only P1 rendering engine. But performance and stability seems to be really much better with WIC and FPV. So I changed the setting in MP back to WIC. In C1 there is no such setting required, so I was wrong with my previous statement.

What I did not test yet, is under which conditions and settings, the image modifications from C1 are still updated and visible in MP.

I just recommend you to test the 30 day trial of FPV. After I installed this tool, the stability and import speed of MP was really perfect. I imported a lot of different types of video, audio, image and office files and with just P1 rendering engine the stability and speed of MP was not good.

Just remember if you are on a Windows machine that using the PhaseOne engine limits you 800px offline previews and when viewing full size it takes about 10 to 15 seconds to scroll between images, don't know if it is different on a Mac.

They do not tell you that in the litrature. 😉

    Hello,

Thanks for all that advices and warnings. I've tried the codec Fast picture and indeed, it seems working very better.

However, while touching everything, I suppose I've done something wrong, because by now, importing my pictures, the modification settings of my pictures do not follow this picture. In MP, I can not see the image as I have it in C1 (B&W, ...).

To do that in a fast way, do I have unchecked an option? I can not find it if it is the case.
I'm really sorry being a bad user with a computer. I am more comfortable with electrical boxes and technical applications like that.

    Thanks again

    Hello,

I still not have succeeded in importing totally my images. My settings does not follow the picture as explained above. An Idea?

    Thanks,

    Hello Louis,

to my knowledge there is no solution. You have only two options in MediaPro (MP):
    • P1 rendering engine. C1 image modifications are visible and updated in MP.
But MP is slow and can become quite unstable during import.

    • WIC/FPV rendering engine. C1 image modification are no longer visible and updated in MP.
MP is much faster and more stable.

3rd option is to use other workflow/tools, which are better for image processing. I made the decision for IDI with C1. MP is still wonderful for all kind of media/office files.
