CapttureOne 4 crashes on some systems
I have tried to install COne 4 in my home machine with no success. Installation and activation succeeds but program crashes every time on startup. reinstallation has not helped.
I then did a trial installation into my work laptop and it works there!!!
differences that i can see.
- My home computer is Pentium D 820 with 4GB ram installed and windows XP SP2 (finnish language)
- My work computer is Pentium M, 1,5 GB ram and windows XP SP 2 english language.
So far i am not able to comment on usability. I just try to get the program up in my home computer where I have all the pictures.
Do you have any suggestions or other observations what i could try? I will definitely try with less memory but am definitely not going to re-install the windows OS.

Hi i have the same problem on a Toshiba A-100 laptop computer.
No problem/except on bad folder browsing) with beta versions of C1 ver.4 but the final one crashes on startup (bad casting on P1.C1.something.dll)
Hope some support to test final version as soon as possible 😄

Hopefully, you removed the beta installations before installing the V4 release....I wouldn't have except I read the ReadMe...not doing so will cause the crashes you describe...HTH... 0 -
yep i have uninstalled the beta before, deleted sys, inf and registry keys and ran a chkdsk but problem persist.
I have 2 topics:
1. casting error on startup
2. unable to browse folders (under c: there is only documents and settings folder)0 -
I am having the exact same issues.
1 - Crash error on start-up and,
2 - Unable to browse folders.
I do have a case filed with PO but have not heard anything back. Although being the holiday season I am not expecting any responce until next week. If I figure out anything I will post here.
Cheers,

I had similar problems, i.e. crash on start-up. after loading Cone 4. However I have found the answer (it worked for me!) Don' t install into the original folder, choose to install into a new program folder. E.g. C: PhaseOneTwo. and it seems to work perfectly.
Hope this helps. Regards - John0 -
The only crash on starting the program on XP SP2 I experienced is when the logged user is not a member of the Administrators or Power Users group. CO4 does not run when the user has limited rights as a regular User. 0 -
C1-4 do crashes. I have send 2 reports (after crash in pop-up window). Now it has stop working at all. I can't start it. In star window I choosed trial ( left 27 days. i didn't activate it yet) and nothing happend. I try it few more times next day and than I uninstall it. I also send support ticket and after 3 days I still didn't recive an answer. 0 -
Hey JJS, just by curiosity what graphic card do you have? Is it a Matrox Parhelia?
Thanks - Laurent0 -
We are working on several scenarios which might cause crashes.
One we have found is HPs share to web that can cause issues.

Hopefully shortly I should be able to put up a list of solutions under Technical Announcements.0 -
Laurent - I use a Sapphire Radeon 9550 AGP Card, on a dual core AMD system with 2GB DDR, and Windows XP Pro.
Hope this helps - John0 -
It just runs incredibly slow and just locks up. My Lightroom just whizzes along nicely. I'd love to use the Cone but it's just unusable, too bad. 0 -
I followed one users suggestion above to uninstall Capture One 4, and then install it to a different folder name, I used his suggested name of Capture One 4 Two. The software started up perfectly. Thank you for the suggestion.
Without success I had previously tried all of the steps in the knowledge base article about Capture One 4 not starting up. I uninstalled Capture One 4, deleted the listed folders, uninstalled Net Frameworks, reinstalled Net Frameworks, installed all Net Frameworks updates, and finally reinstalled Capture One 4.0 -
Tried installing from different folder - no joy.
Crashes immediately - I get a message - "initialization for P1.C1 Version Info threw an exception" whatever that may mean .0
