Tim, I too can easily be a "software freak" and always want something new, but seriously, what are you looking for that V 4.1 does not offer? I know it has some irritations that will eventually be fixed/improved like proper control of 'import numbering' etc. But it really does deliver the goods once you understand how to organize a workflow within it. Some of the default displaye in the menu are also irritating in that you cannot opt to hide them by default, but these are minor(?) irritations.

Do you expect the 'Pro' version to deliver a magic wand, or what?

Well actually, yes it will deliver a magic wand. The color editor to make my own profiles. My business is built around it everyday. I use about 4 different profiles for picking certain colors of purple, red, pink, and a new sepia I call Mocha. I can do that in C1 Pro now. And sometimes I have to do quick ones for color problems in school colors and dress colors. I still cannot use the levels function in V4. This is an LE version, not the pro version I need with horsepower.

I am no software freak. I hate software myself and I am always the last person to upgrade any software for the most part. This is just business for me.

Why not stick with v3 PRO then if that is the case? What more do you want from v4 PRO?

Because it does not show in the V4 window. Cannot see the whole tool.

I will until V4 Pro comes out. But there are some better cropping features, and better features all around on V4, so I want the best of both worlds. I will be going through my busy season which ends in 2 months. Then I can sit down learn the program and then be able to teach it to my workshop attendees and my employees.

Tim, If you already have the profiles you need in Ver.3 Pro, I am sure you cam import them into Ver.4.1. What you need to do is rename the desired profile using the EXACT format that is adopted in Ver.4, which is different than previous versions. I am using a profile created by Jamie Roberts as my 'default' profile for Ver.4.1. All I did was follow his instruction on how to rename the file and bingo, it worked.

A detailed description by him is given somewhere on the Leica User's Forum (L-Forum.com). P.M. me if you need more help finding it, although I am no genius at it myself. 😉

Using other (camera) profiles in CO4.x involves two steps:
    - copy the profile to the <drive>\\Program Files\\Phase One\\Capture One 4\\Color Profiles\\DSLR folder (WinXP)
    - rename the file according to CO4.x naming conventions for profiles to allow the profile to show up in the camera's profile section.

Note that you can already use the camera profile - without the steps described above - which you used with CO3.x (and stored in the C:\\WINDOWS\\system32\\spool\\drivers\\color) through the Others option in the ICC Profile drop down menu on the Quick tab. However, this is less convenient.

It should be noted that not all V3 camera profiles are compatible with V4, e.g. some of Magne's.

Thanks for the note. Are you referring to Magne's pre-v2 profiles? I successfully implemented Magne's profiles for the Canon 5D, 1D II, 1Ds II in CO4, which are all v2 profiles.

To be honest Paul, I can't exactly remember. I think it was during the beta phase that Magne himself said that some of his profiles didn't work properly. I'm pretty sure they included the 10D and 1D Mk II. Now the fact that you say you have 1D Mk II working perfectly makes me think that maybe the problem has gone away.
I seem to recall some other profiles being incompatible at the beta stage too. Maybe it's all been fixed in the release version of V4! I didn't have the problem as my Magne 5D profiles worked fine, so I can't tell.

Magne's 5D profiles always worked even during the beta stage. They were not on his list of ones that weren't compatible.

I need it to stitch better than 3.7.x, using new geometrically scaling algorithms, as I've been told it will, to process stitched images in 16 bits. Without crashing.

Also, I shoot tethered. 4.0 LE won't cut it for me.

Been waiting MUCH too long for this - about a year too long, and my higher-ups aren't happy...

I would love to have the PRO version now but the reality of it is that we do not and no matter how much you care to throw jabs at Phase One, it is not going to arrive any sooner. I would imagine that the line in the sand has been drawn and no new functionality is being added at this point.

I am waiting for this to make some more longer term decisions on other software. How is it going to interface with IView Media Pro for one example.

I have always felt that C1 has done a great RAW conversion and for that reason many have stuck around but I hate to think of how much market share they have lost to Lightroom. Some people are just not going to wait. I really like some of the things that LR has to offer and am hoping that we will see some of this in the PRO version.

    Hello

But aren’t we at a level that C1 4.01 is usable and the panic is over?

All basic function are there and works, and IQ is still very high.

Eh, no! V4 has always been 'usable', but all basic functions are not there. Just because the moaning posts have largely stopped, it doesn't mean that users feelings have changed.
We have made our points about the 'missing' v3LE functions over and over again in the past. There is no need to continue doing so. We just hope that PO have taken onboard the feelings of the users from the beta phases and the first release version and 'bring back' the missing functions in v4.1.
    Then, we will be happy.
BTW, there has never been any question over the image quality of conversions - it's what keeps us here!
