Can't get rid of naming structure
A while back I was experimenting with the naming options, and now I can't get rid of the layout I had made for an earlier catalog. Every time I make a new catalog, it keeps adding the naming structure from the earlier custom naming layout. How do you kill this? Thanks.

Delete the recipe and create a new one. 0 -
Looking at the screenshot, I see the minus sign is gray. The plus sign looks ready for you to make a new recipe, but no minus to delete, right ? I don't know if this will help, but a couple things I would try:
Deselect 'Show enabled only'
Maybe the minus sign is gray because only one recipe is visible an the software doesn't like it when the Name list is empty so it won't allow you to delete the last one. With others recipes visible, you may be able to delete 'Portrait'.
Make another recipe
If you deselect 'Show enabled only' and see you have only the one recipe, 'Portrait', create another recipe. Now, hopefully, you can delete 'Portrait' because your new recipe will be there to prevent the list being empty.
These two things fail, edit 'Portrait' to be what you like.
I can't check now, but you may be able to rename the recipe..
Then no need to delete anything...0 -

Yes, this is because "Show Enabled Recipes" is checked.0 -
Thanks for your replies. Well, there were indeed other recipes there when I unchecked 'Show enabled only'. However I deleted all of them and created a new one, and the naming structure persists, as you can see in my new screen grab.
The 'Portrait' recipe in the previous screen grab incidentally was a newer one I had made, not the one that had the naming structure as listed. How do I get rid of this? Thanks again.

When you get haunted in a new catalog (or session) from what you did earlier in another catalog, my first suspicion is the preference (.plist) file.
Close CO7, look for the preference files and delete them, start CO7 again, open your catalog and also create a new catalog and see what happens. For details reference point 5 and 6 in:

Thanks for your reply. I'm on a Windows 7 machine, and a search for plist shows up nothing. Where do I find this file? Thanks.
EDIT: I uninstalled and reinstalled the program, and it's STILL showing up.0 -

Are you referring to the word "Portrait"?
To get rid of it just delete it in the box. It is, in effect, the data used for the Naming System Token and it is stored in the user.config file for general use rather than as a specific Recipe value. It is only used if you employ the Job Name token in your output file naming format. If you are not using the token you can ignore whatever is in the field. If you are using the token ... the chances are you will be changing it to whatever you need for each run. However if you are processing in multiple output runs per Job (not at all uncommon for a number of reasons) AND you ARE using the Job Name field the value in the field will be persistent as you process each batch.
Given that the concept is to allow users to name file for individual jobs (Shoots if you will but possibly a series of shoots) making it a stand alone value rather than something stored with a Preset naming recipe probably makes sense.
HTH.

I made a reference to a wrong link. I apologize. Again but better now hopefully:

Step 7 removes the user.config file. That is the preference file.0 -
Well, I did that, thanks. I think it did something, however, I'm noticing persistence in certain catalogs.
Here's what I'm seeing, hopefully you can follow this, as it may read a bit confusing.
Any catalog that made BEFORE the "birds" catalog, and NOT open after the "birds" catalog was made and BEFORE deleting the user.config file, as well as any new catalog I make AFTER deleting the user.config file, is not showing the "birds" naming scheme. However any catalog made AFTER the "birds" catalog and BEFORE dumping the user.config file still has the "birds" naming scheme. I've deleted all recipes and made new ones within those catalogs, and the naming scheme persists.
So is there a way to get rid of this "ghost" naming scheme out of those catalogs that still have it? It's only two or three catalogs, so I may just live with them if need be. However it begs the question: Do I need to dump the user.config file every time I make a custom naming scheme for a catalog? I wouldn't care about doing this so much if it weren't for the fact that A) it's going to dump all my program preferences as well and B) obviously I shouldn't have to be doing this.
Thanks again for your reply.0 -
I understand your post and I suggest you contact Phase One in a support case.
I suspect that the specific naming you used (perhaps the square brackets) cause the error of persistence between the preference file and (future) catalogs. That has affected a number of your catalogs.
I don't think you have to delete the preference file regularly, or any process recipe, and indeed you should not have to. If support can help you remove the naming scheme from your catalogs, you are all set.0 -
Thanks. I'll add here however that I did not put those brackets in there, Capture One did. 0 -

That would be strange.
Are you sure you did not change the Token for (I assume) [Folder] by editing the word "Folder" (or whichever token it was) to "Birds". It is easy to do when in a hurry or trying to establish a new naming convention. C1 will understand this as an edit to create a fixed Text component to the file name "[Birds]" and keep the brackets if you have changed only the word originally contained within them.
I have never seen brackets added to the naming convention rules as part of the naming process.

No, I was just following one of those training webinars, going through the motions as described. 0 -

Ah, OK. Can you recall which one and maybe post the link so people can take a look and see if we can get it to happen?
