Saturation/ColorProfile w. 1Ds Mark III?
My 1Ds Mark III raws seem overly saturated in 4.5.2. with all the software exposure adjustments zeroed. I opened the same file in 3.7 and 4.5.2 side by side and the 4.5.2 is much more saturated. But when I opened the same image shot with my Mark II in both softwares it looked the same in both. Am I missing something, some .icc profile setting? I have the "Next Capture Adjustment" .icc profile set to the generic 1Ds Mark III setting. Isn't the idea of profiling to make things consistent across platforms?
Anyone else experiencing this? Thanks for the feedback.
I'm enjoying the software otherwise.

Wow! No one else has this issue? I asked the support guys last week plus a few other questions. No response yet. I'll try again. The profiling issue seemed quite significant to me since we're making adjustments to the files based on what we're seeing on the monitor.
Anyone have an opinion on this?

I have had problems with saturation using a Canon 1D MK2n. Every download from the camera produces over saturated colours especially greens. Every time I have to go to change to ICC generic profile for 1D MK2n in the drop down menu of all profiles in spite of it showing that that is the profile already in use. This does not happen with my 1Ds or my 1D. It is easier to get dust out of a stone than any sort of meaningful answer out of Phase One. 0 -
Here was the last exchange I had with them.
Their answer:
Andreas,
The images in Capture One 4.5.2 use the default monitor profile to generate the preview. If the default monitor settings were identical and the same ICC prfile was chosen then the images should look the same. Also, Capture One 4.5.2 needs to be viewed at 100% for comparison as depending on image content the sharpening may make the image appear to have greater saturation and contrast (this is likely to occur in pattern heavy images).
Kind Regards,
Phase One Support
My reply:
Thanks for the reply.
Not sure why I would only see a difference with the Mark III files and not the Mark II. Also why would it look different in the two softwares on the same monitor at the same time? I'm away from my office for a few days. I'll look at the profiling issue again more closely next week.
Forgive me but having to look at an image at 100% to make adjustments to saturation or exposure seems absurd. I need to see the whole image to judge adjustments to exposure, saturation or contrast.
Maybe this new sharpening function is not the greatest part of the software. I've found default settings really uncomfortable to look at when viewing a full image.(23" Cine Display) Again, even my client commented on the harshness of the images. I eventually create my own setting for viewing images while shooting/capturing and I'll create another setting for when I output the files.
Any more thoughts on this are appreciated.
Andreas
I'm pretty sure I'm on top of all the .icc settings. I'm going to wrestle with it again next week.
So far Phase has been pretty good about getting back to me with reasonable answers. The bit about viewing at 100% threw me though.
