Your list of C1 Pro User improvements (Constructive please)
I'm in the processes of migrating back to C1 Pro after using Aperture 3 for about a year.
I always preferred C1 for IQ (using Nikon) - RAW conversion at it's best...
But Aperture just gave me more features that I can integrate into my workflow, and speed that side of things up a bit.
So, I guess that there isn't one RAW conversion/management software that gives all things to all people, and we all make compromises to fit individual workflows.
My question is this: What would you like to see in C1 PRO? What extra feature, big or small, would change your life for the better? To get us going, here's my list.
1) Full Screen View. Floating adjustment huds a la Aperture.
2) Can I save my session folder format as a template for every time I import files from a card. Eg. Session folder - Import Folder - 'Full Set' Album - 'Book Edit' Album etc. The same for my Processed output.
3) Smart albums like Aperture.
4) Better OSX integration. eg, a mobile me uploader?
5) Can I apply styles or adjustments applied to imported files as they come in?
6) Can I configure the tool highlight colour away from Orange? User defined and infinite.
7) Spot/healing/clone Brush tool. Sometimes there just isn't time to open up PS for a bit of dust!
8) Plug ins.
9) Local Adjustments - I'd like to be able to brush in/out saturation, exposure.
10) Layers!!! - yeah, I know.
Ok, so this is my top 10. I know that there a few things here that are perhaps unreasonable (Layers) or not doable (MobileMe) but the file management stuff would make a lot of sense to me.
And if there is anything here that you can already do, I'd like to know about it. I haven't dug into this properly yet and I've spent time in a different program so there's probably a few things that I'm behind on here.

It be great if Capture One could be customized to be entirely Fushia. I just love that color and my workflow has been loosely based on a like based color scheme
EDIT: I created a support case, #1234. The support team politely said they would forward the request to R&D but hinted at a likely "no".
I like Fushia too0 -

Please don't misunderstand, at no point was this presented as a requirement... simply a suggestion.
Again, all of these are great suggestions and the only way to be 100% sure that your voice is heard by the correct people is to create a support case.
I think a lot of people already asked for instance for a preset to set the preferred camera profile (which is "Flash" by default).
At some point I think people simply give up asking for certain things... especially if there is no feedback whether the features in question are somewhere on the horizon or simply have been considered as irrelevent (on the part of the R&D team).0 -

I think it's clear that persistence pays off but again, they are your suggestions and you are welcome to take them as far as you'd like.0 -
I'd like dedicated, i.e. lens-specific, lens corrections in the same vain as DxO.
Cheers, Bob.0 -
Here are a few things that I would very much like to see with any new release:
1. Local adjustment brush for exposure - contrast - saturation etc
2. Greater stability....... Capture one is very sensitive and loves to freeze and/or crash...... it is a pain in the bum!
and also
3. Please replace the tiny little triangle (drop down) things with PROPERLY SIZED ICONS AND CONTROLS
4. Sort out the renaming it is very slow buggy and inflexible, almost unusable at times.
But please keep the great colours.
I no longer use Capture One but sorting the above items would bring me back into the fold.0 -

I agree with Graham2-
These are the most important features that should be addressed in the next version. Hopefully something like 5.3 or 5.4 not v6.
Please before video or other Lightroom features please make it more stable.
I truly dislike using C1v5 on set and almost every shoot consider saying screw it and fire up Bridge. I love the color rendition of C1Pro but I can match it in Photoshop.0 -
I have to agree with the other comments.
I have been using Capture One for several years and have never had any issues until you changed from 3 to 4.
Using Capture One on set is kind of like suicide:
-It takes 1-2 minutes just to start (if it doesn't crash the first time you start it)
-Selecting a folder and typing in your capture name (while getting the spinning beach ball every time you click something) adds on another 5 minutes
-The program will randomly crash while shooting tethered
-Renaming any files takes about 5-10 minutes for 100 images(since it must generate a new text preview and rename all the linked color files)
We just upgraded our iMac:
2.93 ghz
12 GB ram
1-250 Solid state drive that the OS runs on
1-2TB scratch drive for shoots
Its a mystery why this version of C1 runs so slow. It didn't in the past!
I'm anxiously awaiting an update that will fix all of the crashing and delays. I feel like I'm rendering a hi-def movie in final cut.
Until then, using Bridge to rename and download files.0 -
NN97182 your system obviously has some problems. You may need to uninstall the app and clear the Batch Queue folder. I have a uninstaller at rapdigital.net/apps.html but if you search the phase site you find instructions. Are you shooting tethered to the scratch drive and do you have ignore permissions set for that drive? I have a 2.9 09 MacPro with 10.5.8 that I run on set virtually everyday (mostly fashion) and dont experience the problems you have. Definitely be worth creating a support case. 0 -
Though I find C1 V5 much more stable than its previous version (and V4 as well!) I do experience from time to time the "spinning wheel of death" and "C1 runs out of memory".
But the IQ is worth those problems (they aren't so often).
I have no problems when I have less than 500 (IDs III CR2) files… but I don't shoot tethered (and never tried…)
However rap_digital, do you mean that the scratch disk MUST have the "ignore permission" checked? I don't see any difference…
BTW, I know how to set-up a disk as the scratch disk in PS CS5, but never found how for C1, I guess it is the HD where the Session and files are stored…
Sessions stand on a 1.5 Tb RAID 0 disk (Apple RAID 2.0 interlaced matrix) made of 2x750 Gb (Internal SATA)
Mac Pro, Quad-Core Intel Xeon, 2,8 GHz x 2, 8 cores, RAM 8 Gb - Snow Leopard, Capture One 5.2.10 -
I would NEVER trust raid-0 with my session files. My most stable system has a 120gb ssd that is set as the session drive. I have this set to ignore permissions so the OS doesn't need to write permissions for each raw file and the .cos .cop and .cof files that are associated to each raw. Then I have a 4 disk raid 5 for incremental back-ups of session files, and finally a small 60something gb ssd for the OS. I hear you saying 120gb aint much but it was what I could afford and is enough for (usually a days shoot) if I need I can delete from the session drive as its all getting backed up to the raid5. This is a 2.93x8 cores 2009 mac pro running 10.5.8 notice how I keep mentioning 10.5.8 hehehe. external to that I have a esata os backup running off the owc 2port 6Gbps card (not the best card but cheap). In the final pciE slot I have a sonnet Fw400 card I've had this card since the G5 tower I think and thats what i use to tether to. I wish I had another 2 slots for a sas raid card but Steve hates slots so I have my trusty 2006 8core 3.0ghz for running the LTO sas card and external 8 drive archive but that sits in the back room.
Not saying that things dont get beach balled some times but......0 -
Ah!
I fully understand your point rap, but I just mentioned my working set-up!
beside of this set-up, each time I come back from a shoot, I:
Copy (from my laptop and/or its external firewire HD back-up) my captures to the raid0 disk
then, I duplicate this onto a 1Tb USB disk, mirrored to its twin.
One USB disk is kept, unplugged, in the office, the other is going right away to a safe in the bank.
Then I start working with the files standing on the raid which, by the way, is backed-up many time per day (auto mode) to a 1.5 Tb firewire Lacie time machine disk.
Peace of mind…

Here are a few feature requests whose implementation I would greatly appreciate.
Capture One 5 + Feature Request
Preferences
Select and set default camera color profile in the preferences so that it applies to all imported images, as in versions up to CO 3.7.9. It would also be most serviceable to have the possibility available to set other parameters directly in the preferences as in CO 3.7.9 (although to some extent this is presently available).
Camera Profiling
With the ColorChecker Passport and attendant software, X-rite has made possible the generation of low-cost, situation-specific camera profiling (for some Raw conversion programs). It would be helpful to have this capability available also in Capture One.
Keyboard shortcuts
- Allow keyboard shortcut for floating tool windows so that they can be rapidly summoned.
Local Adjustments Using Masking
Make possible local adjustments using masking, but which would extend to color controls and Black & White conversion as well. Examples of this feature obtain in Lightroom and more recently in Aperture 3.
Black & White Conversions
- Make possible Black & White conversions through tools similar to Lightroom or Camera Raw, where the conversion can be refined through a manipulation of different color-specific sliders. While I have just learned that this can be accomplished in the Advanced Tab of the Color Editor, it might be helpful if this feature would be more readily accessible. The Color Monochrome Tool in Aperture 3 might also be implemented.
Show Grid
when grid and guides on; And
when dragging.
That is, it would be positive for me to have both options available and available simultaneously rather than being mutually exclusive.
New Session Dialogue Box
- Please make the font sizes more user-friendly, that is, larger and more legible.
Under the heading for session "Type" why is a Capture Folder only included for the Template 'Tethered'. I'm sure that there is a logic to this but it escapes me.
Allow the user to determine the number of folders in a session template. I never use the Move-to folder and hence repetitively trash it for every session.
If there is a 'plus' (+) button for adding sessions, why not have a minus button (-) for removing sessions?
No Need for Integrating Cataloguing Feature
The acquisition of Expression Media is interesting, but I hope it remains a separate program for cataloguing. It is good from my viewpoint to have Capture One remain a high quality Raw conversion program.
Ability to process raw file as smart object
When the file is converted and opened in Photoshop, let it appear as a smart object layer. Clicking on its layer icon should then return us to Capture One in the event that it is necessary to tweak adjustments made on the file. This would be an important feature.
Training Videos
The excellent Luminous Landscape videos to my mind demonstrated the extent of the need for a coherent set of training videos along the lines of Lynda.com, on a monthly subscription basis, from a site that has reliable server capabilities (so that the videos don’t hang while being viewed as is far too often the case at present). I’ve been using Capture One since v1 on the Mac, but I’m sure that there is so much that I’m missing in this worthwhile program.0 -

Yes, yes and YES!0 -
I'd also like the ability of selecting (for specific adjustments) rows and lines just as in a spreadsheet. 0 -
Another one:
to be able (in a pref.) to give priority to work done on file in C1 while C1 is exporting previous jobs.
I have to wait with spinning wheel for looong minutes to be able to work on file while C1 is exporting and 4 cores being at 100%…0 -

Hi all
I'd (also) like ro add to the list the ability to have an auto CA control adjustment.
I did create a support case for this a while ago and were told that this could come to an upcoming C1 version…
So creating a support case (as suggested here by Drew (from C1) does work!
Below is the (shortened but successful!) history of my exchanges with C1 support team. Thanks to them!
Q:
I am a yacht photographer and do a lot of shots from helicopter (and chase boat as well).
I use to shoot in very contrasty lights (reflection of sunlight on the sea and mirror polished stainless steel) 80% of the time I need to use the CA control.
This works very well but is a pain to activate manually for each file…
It would be nice to have the same automatic ability as for exposure, when checkbox is activated it would do the CA correction on every selected file with its own characteristics.
For now if I have the check box activated in a style or if I copy and apply settings it will apply the same correction than the one of the activated file: not good!
A:
…
I will forward your suggestion to the developers for consideration in future releases.
…
Later (quite much)
Q:
any chance to have this feature soon?
That would really help!
A:
This feature has been adjusted. However for best results it is suggested you use the Chromatic Aberation for each image.
In the case of this feature in the latest software you simply need to make the adjustment to one image and then Copy/Apply that adjustment to the other images you wish to correct.
Q:
thank you for the quick reply.
However it needs clarification, when you write:
"In the case of this feature in the latest software you simply need to make the adjustment to one image and then Copy/Apply that adjustment to the other images you wish to correct."
Does this mean that -with Capture One 5.2.1 for Mac OS X - I can apply the adjustment to all images in a folder, what ever the lens used, whatever the "kind" of light (front/light/backlight) ?
A:
That is correct. The feature can be repeated on any version of Capture One 5.2.1
-----
I wanted to share this feature as it is, AFAIK, not documented and might be of could help to others… 😜
Also, do not hesitate to contact the support team, they are always replying, welcoming and fair guys…
Just too bad that C1 cannot have someone to report our requests directly, summarizing and eventually filtering, what will happen if we all write to the support team?…0 -
Here's my whislist :
I just want C1 to remain the best Capturing software.
Some off you want Bridge, Lightroom and Photoshop merged into CaptureOne and, yes, please by the way, make it faster and more stable... 😂
I'm using C1 everyday for what it's been made for : Capture.
If there's anything I want to change it's speed and stability, but it's been improved a lot lately.
And for those regretting 3.7.9, try it once more, you'll be amazed how slow your workflow gets.0
