Picking different variants on different albums?
I have been using Capture One 8.2 Pro for about a week now, and while I thought it was awesome at first (which motivated buying the Pro version for Sony), I think I am bumping into some of it's limitations.
Here is what I am trying to do: I have multiple variants of some images, let's say a B&W variant, a portrait crop, and a 16x9 crop. Then I create separate albums, say an Album 1 and Album 2. On Album 1 I would like to include the B&W variant of Image 1, and a portrait crop of Image 2; On Album 2 I would include the 16x9 variant of Image 1 and a B&W variant of Image 2.
The thing is when I move a variant from a folder / album to another album, all the variants go along together. That would be fine if I could pick different variants on different albums, but when i Pick / Promote a variant on one album, that variant also gets picked / promoted on the other album.
I tried using color tags for the different variants, but if I define that Yellow is for the portrait crop, blue is B&W, green is 16x9, while I could filter for only "portrait" or "16x9" crops, there is no way to define an album that has a 16x9 crop of an image and a B&W version of another. If I color-tag by output type (like green for selection 1 and blue for selection 2), there is no point in creating albums, and I would only have 7 selection types available for each image!
Is it the way the software was designed? Is there a technique I could use to work around this issue, without duplicating files? What is the point of albums if I can't select which variants go in them?

I want to add to this, that this is solved perfectly in Aperture: The so called "Album Picks" depend directly on the Album were they got picked. This way it is very easy to create Albums for different logical variants (as in your example B/W, Squared, ...). It would be really cool if Capture One Pro would adapt this Album-specific "Picks" in stacks.
Another thing: Stacks in Capture One only work for variants of the same underlying RAW. It would be nice if it would be possible to either stack arbitrary images or at least if it would be possible that images that get created through "Edit With..." would get into the Stack too.0
