Stars Greyed Out

After selecting an image in Browser I cannot set a star rating to a JPG. My drive is set to r&w for all folders.
When I click on the stars nothing happens.
When I right click on the image the stars are all grayed out in the "rating" menu.

I am running Capture One DB 9.3 Build 9.3.0.69 (f4e6f0f) on a Mac.

Can anyone help me with this.
At this point I'm just importing everything into Lightroom

    In Preferences, on the Image tab, is the Enable JPEG editing checkbox selected?

    It would save a lot of confusion if Phase One actually labelled that version as "Digital Back" and not "DB" !

    +1. First time I heard about CO, I thought DB meant "DataBase". 😊
