I should also add that conversions were done with sharpening disabled, both in C1 3.7.* and v4.

    I've done a lot of side-by-side comparisons between v3 and v4 and
find the detail and sharpness about the same. However, I *do* notice
higher noise in the v4 conversions. This is with NR at zero, and sharpening
disabled at output. On my 350D, the files have a quite similar "look."
I find the v4 generic profile to be superior to the v3 generic. When using
Magne's profiles, they are very close.

Bottom line for me is that v4 does a very good job, with regard to overall
    image quality.

Intrigued by your comments re. the generic profiles that comes with v4, I compared the generic C1 v4 profile for the the 350D with the generic 350D profile that comes with 3.7.* at www.iccview.de. The profiles are identical, ie they are the same profile. Same goes for the 10D, 20D and 5D.

The profiles may well be identical, but with v4, I am seeing slightly more
saturated colors. Magne, too, seems slightly more saturated than with
v3. At least with the 350D, I find the color to be superb. Skin tones, blues,
    reds, etc., look really nice.

Yes I agree with you, I see the difference too - files processed with Film Standard seem to be higher in contrast than with 3.7.* and look punchier because of it.

Yes, Film Standard does seem to add quite a bit of contrast, which probably
    boosts color saturation.

One thing I've discovered is that you can extract tremendous dynamic
range by using the Neutral profile. It has way less contrast than Film
Standard, thus requiring far less adjustment with the shadow/highlight
    sliders.

How are you using MAGNE in v4??

I wasn't aware you could use a non-generic camera profile??

Yes, you can. I use Magne profiles for 5D, 1D mkII, 1Ds mkII in CO4.

You just have to adhere to the file name conventions in the DSLR sub folder of Capture One. For example, for my 5D profiles, I have renamed them as CanonEOS5D-ETC-V200-HiSat. As far as I recall, it's the CanonEOS5D bit that's important.
    I hope that helps.

I also am very disappointed with the noise reduction with V4. I use Canon 1D Mark2, and Mark3. I can't get that wonderful "creamy" look in the backgrounds the C1 Pro or LE get no matter how I set the noise reduction or sharpening. Despite the hassles of using C1Pro with Windows Vista, I don't think that V4 is worthwhile using. If anyone knows how to get that same look in V4, please let me know.

Now that I have used version 4 for a few weeks, I have come to really like it and do most of my conversions with it. In most cases where exposures are close, I get great results quickly. I do agree with you about the noise reduction, one of the worst on the market right now. When I do have a problem shot, say underexposed, I will run it through Neat Image to get it acceptable. On first round I was able to get acceptable noise reduction on the same image with Bibble, Silkypix, DPP,LR and Raw Therapee (the best of the lot). But in the end, after Neat Image, the C1-4 is the best...I should not have to take that extra step though so I am hoping for a fix on this with the next maintenance release. Of course, if I am doing something wrong, I am open for guidance.
