Delete old 'Session91' folder after upgrade to v10

    Kevin,

When you upgraded the session C1 will have created a backup copy of the previous session version .cosession file just in case you feel a need to go back to it at some point for some reason.

Should you decide to do that is will expect to find the related .cos, etc., files in a Settings91 folder (or folders if you have original images referenced by the session which are themselves held in multiple folders).

The .cos files in the Settings91 folder are your edits (to date) for those files up to version 9.3.

You can of course delete them but should you ever need to revert to V9 (More specifically V91. or later) you would be doing so without your previous edit work.

Whether that would matter to you is an entirely personal decision. However without them the backed up session database has greatly reduced value.

    HTH.

Thank you Grant - That is what I thought. Point taken about going back to an older version though.

Am I right in thinking that any folder I have containing images with an older 'Settings' folder number ('Settings70' for instance) I still need to keep so when (or if) I browse to it from v10 it will automatically create a 'Settings 100' (or whatever) folder that contains all the previous adjustments and any future ones I make? - In this case I could then delete the old 'Settings70' folder?

The old folders don't take up much space, but I just like getting rid of unnecessary files and folders if I can safely do so.

    Thanks for your help.

    Hi Kevin,

Yes, if, like me, you have some old version sessions that have not been touched by more recent versions you probably should keep the Settings folders in case you decide at some point to revisit them as they were but with the newer version.

I would guess that at some point the changes to the internal workings will become so different to older versions that the old engine and its settings will become unsupportable for any practical purpose at all but Phase seem able to keep support for many older versions (all of them? Not sure.) at the edit/display level at the moment.

That said I sometime think it may be worth simply starting again with an old image and new tools and recently learned techniques rather than unpicking how one used to do things years ago. I have some folders with multiple "settings" sub folders!

You can, of course, remove the Cache folder since the only obvious risk is the need to take some time to recreate the previews and thumbnails should they ever be required once again if you open the Version session at some point in the future.

    HTH.

Thank you for your reply Grant - I don't intend deleting any old versions unless I have 'touched' the files with v10. I take your point about 'revisiting' the files though, I've done that many times myself.

    Best Regards
