So does any one know (Paul E) what bugs have been fixed with the latest release and should we bother downloading it if we don't have the new P 40+ back?

I notice the release notes state "Phase One P 40+ incl. tethered capture". I too find it frustrating the release notes don't list details of bugfixes, I can't understand why not?

I can't believe 4.8 has been out nearly a full day and nobody from Phase has been on this forum or any of the usual suspects to answer my question.

A version jump from 4.7, to 4.8 suggests some serious under the hood fixes or added features but its seems 4.8 is more of a maintenance fix or a 4.7.1 release.

Any one know if its worth the bandwidth to download it and what bugs were fixed?

I suspect none as P1 don't / won't seem to acknowledge there's anything wrong with it. They just appear to want to add new features like jpeg processing & I still can't get my p45+ to shoot them. ❓

So, over to you guys - what exactly, if anything at all has been fixed in this new release?

Thanks for the heads on on the new release, shame there isn't an auto email from Phase One to let there customers know, or at least an auto update when I launch C1.

I can only share the release notes with you, that's all I know. CO 4.8 was quite a surprise for me. I have not been able to use it yet, occupied by other matters.

Ed - Open C1 and open preferences (CMD+comma or from the menu "Capture One -> Preferences..."). Under "software update" you can tell the program to check for updates as often as daily.

I agree an email would be nice - but at least this way it would check for updates each work day, if it's a problem for you. Personally, I prefer to wait a couple weeks and read these forums before updating. (Eg - 4.5.1 and corrupted .CR2 files...)

    Bonjour Robert
Thanks for the tip, as I had to search a long time in the pref panel before discovering that one have to click on the >> at the top right of the pref window to discover that function (and color as well!). There is plenty enough place on that bar! why did phase did put this >> there?

    Have a nice week-end

Improved preview rendering for Canon 1Ds MKIII
Image Capture Extension Memory Leak over USB still exists

C1 4.8 has greatly improved preview rendering for the Canon 1Ds MKIII. The image stays around just long enough for a quick-eyed art director to see it. Still slower than the MKII over Firewire, but MKIII file size is larger and USB is, well, USB. So no more empty preview window. Thanks, PhaseOne.

However, we still need to monitor the RAM occupied by the Image Capture Extension process in Activity Monitor. The occupied real memory for this process will continue to creep up until C1 4.8 freezes. We prevent this by leaving the Activity Monitor window open and when the Image Capture Extension process has consumed 2GB of RAM (our MacPro has 8GB RAM), we quit C1 4.8, and then quit the Image Capture Extension process in Activity Monitor. Unplug the USB cable. Relaunch C1 4.8 and plug in the USB cable and the camera should reconnect. Repeat every 100 frames or so...

This USB driver memory leak is an Apple/Canon problem, not a PhaseOne problem. This behavior exists whether we use the Canon software or C1 4x. It does not exist using a FireWire-tethered camera. We are all hoping that 10.5.7 or Snow Leopard fixes this so we can use the MK III as a primary instead of a backup.
