C1 Catalog/Session portability
Are CaptureOne sessions and catalogs portable?
What is the best way to transfer a C1 session from one computer to another without loosing the RAW adjustments created in C1?
If the C1 RAW files are imbedded in a C1 catalog can the catalog be transferred to another computer to perform RAW file processing?

The best way to move a session is to copy or move the whole session folder.
So if I had a session called 2017Holiday it would be in my Pictures>2017Holiday folder. That would include a session file called 2017Holiday.cosessiondb and subfolders for Capture, Output, Selects and Trash. Each of those has sub-subfolders that Capture One creates for the files it uses for thumbnails, previews, adjustments and masks.
So if you just move the whole 2017Holiday folder, you get the lot without any further effort.

Then it would be ok to give a retoucher an externa hard with the session. The retoucher can copy the complete session session and process the raw files. 0 -

Yes, that will work. Sessions are transferable between mac and windows machine as well (can not comment on catalogs however).
Alternatively if you wanted to transfer only a few selects to you retoucher instead of sending the whole session you could send the selects as EIP (File > Pack as EIP) and when the retoucher opens the file in their Capture One all of the settings you made will be present.0 -
If you want to keep identical copies of the entire database catalog on two computers or external drive in sync, you could use ChronoSync to do this. ChronoSync will copy only the changes from a source to a destination. It can do this in a single direction or in both directions. In the later instance, any changes made on one computer can be synced to the other. ChronoSync works well with data in packages, so it works well with Capture One's database and also with referenced image files. Performance is very efficient. Only the changes are copied. For my 50k plus database, it takes a few minutes after the initial sync. Times will increase when adding new images for the next sync, depending on the number of images added.
I use it to keep a backup on an external drive. I do this as a one way backup so as not to take a chance on introducing errors from a bidirectional sync, however, there is not much rational reasoning for being this conservative.0 -

Other sync tools work well, too. One thing to keep in mind when syncing (not only for CO):
If you have 2 computers, like one at home and one on the road, it's better not to sync both directions. Do a one way replacing (copy added/changed and delete removed) sync. Because if you used one computer one day and the other on the next day, and you forgot to sync in between, your database and sidecars may not be in line with imports and adjustments anymore. Especially with masks and LCCs, as they are saved as sidecar files. Yes, one needs to choose which one to keep, and changes of the other one will be lost. But that's still better than a messed up catalog. Sessions are less problematic, but in this case you may find unused mask and LCC files in your sidecar folder.

Don't you have to know these things to be certified professional? 😐 0 -

I work on session folders stored on iCloud 2tb service. £6 a month. This allows me to work in the office, close the computer down and for the files (and updates) to be available to work on my iPad/pencil (Affinity Photo) and laptop C1pro. This frees up space on my hardware and acts as a backup for "Working Files" before I move them to NAS drives. Speed seems good, never noticed having to wait around for stuff etc and I don't have to move around Sessions.... ever!0
