Software won't connect to Canon 1ds

When the camera is powered on and connected via firewire,
I select \"reconnect camera\" and the 1ds is shown in the drop box.
If I hit ok, the machine hangs for a bit, then gives the error:

\"Unable to enter release control\"

then the program goes non responsive.
If the camera is powered on and connected when I start the software,
the same process happens without me having to select \"reconnect\"

During this time, the manual camera controls do not respond.

I'm currently updating the camera firmware, but wondered has anyone else run into this?

  Updating the WIA driver from the canon site solved the issue.
