Colour Qs/suggestions: L*a*b* ; 8-bit (0-255) RGB scale
Several related questions:
1. LAB values
As far as I can tell, CO does not display LAB values, only RGB (and CMYK). Is there a plan for future releases to show LAB values? This seems like a major omission to me.
2. Internal colour space
Prompted by the former - what is CO's working colour space? Sorry if I am missing the obvious, but I couldn't see this information. This page simply says, "Capture One works in a very large color space, similar to that captured by camera sensors." I'm assuming it's an RGB space by the fact that LAB values aren't supported (and, you know, it's camera sensor data we're dealing with) ... is it ProPhoto, or perhaps something similar but proprietary?
3. 16-bit images vs. 0-255 scale
Pixel values are displayed 0-255, Ã la Photoshop. But I work with a camera that is able to capture much more colour info, and I normally output 16-bit. So for every value on the 8-bit 0-255 scale, there is another 256 'steps' in between. Which is a lot of difference when considering under/over-exposure.
Okay, I guess a 0-65535 scale might be a bit unwieldy, but surely there must be some way to better represent colour values/gamut/etc ? Anyone?

There was an interesting discussion about the use of Lab in the Luminous Landscape forums about a year ago (June 2013).

I'm not entirely sure about the etiquette we should use for posting links to other forums in this context. Best not include the link I suspect although I would be delighted if anyone from Phase was to check and include it if they deemed it to be relevant.
Hopefully people will be able to work out a simple search that will quickly get them to the discussion using the information provided.

I don't think it is an issue when you post a link from a LuLa forum here. The LuLa forum is frequently visited by Phase One staff as well, posting helpful tips and announcing webinars. 😂0 -

I did imagine it would not be a problem ... but it's one thing being staff (and former staff perhaps?) but another to make the assumption that cross posting is acceptable, as a mere user of the Phase forum, on what might become a contentious subject (well, you never know how these things may develop ...)
