4K Monitor image preview problem

I have just connected a 4K monitor to my computer. (Benq Sw271)

Display resolution is set to 3840 x 2160.

I have set size of Apps and text to 200%.

Everything is perfect except the image preview in C1, which is mush.

In Edit/Preferences/Image I have tried various preview sizes.

What size should it be working at, or what other correction should I be making?

    Many thanks.

What sort of benefits are you aiming to achieve from your new monitor?

It occurs to me that you are in effect running the screen at 1920 x 1080 but relying on either Windows or the screen driver software to re-scale things. That probably works fine for text and basic screen handling but not so well for images.

Assuming that the model number of the Benq screen relates to a 27in display you are running the equivalent of a 13 to 14 inch 1920x1080 display viewed at a regular screen viewing distance. So in effect similar to looking at the images viewed at 200%

If you were seeking more screen real estate at a regular viewing distance but wanting a single screen rather than a second screen, it might be better to go to something like a 32" screen or larger at 4k. Realistically something with double the your previous screen size or close to it but run at its native resolution would be a better option.

There will likely be better colour gamut coverage available at the 4k resolution (depending in the screen specs) but that is also likely to be compromised by running at 200%.

I have been considering what to buy for my next notebook and the greater colour gamut coverage of a 4k screen quite appeals BUT a 15in screen with 4k would, I suspect, be terrible for text and setting the zoom to 200% would then likely compromise both the screen and the colour gamut result. Which would, I suspect, just leave me with the 'benefit' of a faster drain on the battery due to higher power consumption.

Don't take my word for it but I suspect that running at anything greater that 125% will appear unsatisfactory and even 125% is nowhere near ideal. That the facility is provided by the manufacturers is no guarantee that it comes without serious compromises.

Could you run the screen at 2k rather than 4k natively and so reach the same display pixel dimensions but avoid the software scaling?

    Thanks for the reply.

I don't know what I did right or wrong, but it's now working perfectly - after at least 3 restarts of the program.

Preview image size is now set to 3840.

    The image preview is mind-blowing!

Ditto image previews in Photoshop CS6, Davinci Resolve and Hasselblad Phocus. This monitor rocks!

Like most people, I always had issues with image preview in C1 versus the same image exported to CS6. Not anymore.

The only problem I have now is the UI size on CS6. It's tiny, even when set to large in preferences.

    Everything else is perfect.

    Thanks again.

Just solved my Photoshop CS6 scaling problem with this simple fix...

    1. Go to C: > Program Files > Adobe > Adobe Photoshop CS6
    2. Right-click on the Photoshop icon
    3. Choose Properties/Compatability/Change Settings for all users
    4. Click 'Change high DPI' settings
    5. Under High DPI scaling override click the box, Override high DPI scaling behaviour.
    6. Under the drop-down menu 'Scaling Performed By' choose System (instead of the default Application)

Photoshop will now open and look normal.
