No Tethering stability, no upgrade :-(
Unfortunately the tethering in C1 8.1 & Canon does not work stable!
Overtime the cam or the macbook fall asleep (yes i like sleep modus, safes energy of batteries), the camera does not connect to computer. I have to restart the Application several times...really not very helpful in busy production!
I really though i give 8.1 a chance and upgrade the next days...i will not, after the disappointing start of C1 7 and the month of highest blood pressure, i will stay with 7.2.3 or lightroom....both work stable.
A very disappointed customer!

Sorry you are disappointed.
We'd welcome a support case to help if you'd like.0 -
i am not very pleased to be the beta tester for you!
where do i open a support case?
also very disappointing: when the app crashes, sending a file to Phase One creates another 2 minutes of beachball in OS X ☹️0 -

And of course, you are not. The system works and works well.
If you are having conflicts, we'd be happy to investigate them for you.

opened a support case...let us see what happens...
but please give me a reason to switch, upgrade and spend money on C1 8?m
C1 7 does run stable on my machine, Lightroom does, Apples "old school" Aperture does, C1 8 does not!0 -
The reason for you to upgrade is for you to find and decide.
In technical support we will simply help to find and resolve performance conflicts you may have.0 -
Wouldn´t it be better to come out with a running horse winning the race...???
I will not upgrade yet, gimme a call when system runs with canon....no matter who is delivering SDK or anything else.
I am a photographer, don´t wanna test your product, need it for work!
It´s the second time for me (C1 7 startet full of mistakes) that i have to anger about your unfinished products!
Gone for give LR a beta test...bye0 -

It does work and works successfully for 1,000's of users.
If your workflow specifically is having conflicts then no amount of "fix" on our end is going to change that.
Sorry to see you go but again, if you would like to find a solution to the shortfalls of your setup we are happy to help get you up and running.0 -

Hi Digga,
C1 8 has been by far the most stable release in years with a few minor glitches as expected.
As a digital operator I get to use a lot of different machines, and I find that the stability highly depends on the owner. Photographer's that dump all their stuff on shoot computers, fill up their desktops, never repair permissions or run maintenance ALWAYS have capture issues, while those who keep their computers fresh, delete preferences every few months and run regular maintenance have hardly ANY issues whether it's tethering to Canon, Nikon or PhaseOne.
More than likely the problems you are experiencing are because of your system, tether cables or camera ports. I rent out my macbook pro and mac pro on a daily basis and don't experience any tether problems with C1 8.0 -

This has been our finding as well, across several of our own systems and hundreds of clients.
Whatever's going on with your setup is unfortunate and must be frustrating, but it's not representative of the quality of the software.0 -
Chiming in on my experiences, too;
Still crashes here and there especially when trying to do things faster than the software allows. If a lag happens and I'm jumping a few steps ahead, invariable a crash will happen.
Outside of this, though, it's been one of the most stable releases in the past 3-4 years. Thankfully.0 -
Can't say much about LR, but Aperture has crashed often enough in those years that I've been using it daily. Some releases where worse than others. As with most software, first versions of major releases tend to be less reliable. If you don't want to take the risk, wait until a few minor releases later. Since Apple is hardly working on Aperture any longer the current release is fairly stable but also has crashed more often since Yosemite got released.
1 1/2 months ago I've switched to CO8 when 8.1 was released. I've had one crash and one minor bug related to exporting.0 -
But why has 7.2.3 a stable connection to camera, also when powering down, and C1 8 has not???
Isn´t it possible to build in the old SDK from Canon into the C1 8 Version?0 -

Theoretically you can do this kind of surgery, but is this the best course of action you can take? Did the support case you made deliver any insights?0 -
Good question? Do you send an email when something is happening on support case or do i have do log in somewhere?
Sorry, but i have no time to deal the hole day with support cases and forum threats... ☹️ !0 -

Sorry, I failed to understand this attitude where you ask other users, as much occupied as you, to give their spare time to help and assist you, while professional help from the manufacturer is available. You want it solved or not.
You can log in to your Phase One account and review the status in case an email with status update is filtered by a junk mail filter.0 -
digga !
you are absolut right ! i can feel your situation
wer are not Programmer or developer for such expensive Software like this ! we are expecting Quality and good Professional Workflow, i will not waist my Time keeping sending Bugs to support 🤭 also let me tell you one think moor !
this forum hear is been reading carefully from Phase One every second and could delating it how they want and like,
my experience tells me,
1. that Capture One still Buggy and unstable on the Mac
2. have a very weakly DAM tools.
with DAM function still Aperture and Lightroom are the best 😄0 -

Software alone does not determine the soundness of a workflow. I often see posts on this forum asking some of the most contrived, backward, inefficient and non-linear workflow questions I have ever seen. No single piece of software or even software suite can repair a broken process and a person resolved to stick to their broken process with the expectation that everyone else adapts to them.
With that said, I believe Phase takes a lot of heat from people who are trying to use hardware that is out of or at minimum spec, using cables over spec, computers with very weak bus power and then refusing to use powered hub or repeater, etc. As Lsdigi said,[quote="LSdigi.com" wrote:

Just curious Digga and D700: Do you guys ever work with digital techs? I bet a good one could get you sorted out in short order.0 -

Question Please ?
did you tried Apple Aperture bevor ?
have you really used it to your Workflow and for a long time ?
if yes, please let me remember you about very simple Features was bidding inside. bevor years ago...
1. the Image Import function !
2. the keywords and Filter function !
3. the Plugins function !
4. the Brush function !
5. the export and shear Image with from one closed Library function !
6. the Web or Book-print presentation functions !
7. the rending Image function !
do you really believes that these points are working better in C1 8 than the Old Aperture bevor ?
bather way my computers are Imac 27" and Mac Pro 2012-2014 and all update, authors new Apps and olds Programs are working great.0 -
I did try Aperture for my personal workflow when I was working freelance. While it offered a lot of excellent features that were a huge step forward at the time from using a combo of Adobe Bridge and Photoshop, they were by and large features that I either was not likely to use for my work or in terms of quality output were not on par with what I could get out of the Adobe programs I was already using. So, sure, I will take a crack at your questions...
1) Import in C1Pro is something that I am extremely familiar with. In the early stages for my days as a staff tech we used a variety of programs to dump CF cards into our system. After using C1Pro, we never looked back. The ability to smoothly rename, apply a baseline adjustment and have the burden of generating all of the sidecar files fall on my group with our fast and numerous machines it was an extremely big win. I do realize that there have been bugs with this functionality as of late but as I no longer suffer from a CF card workflow, it hasn't been a real drain on my workflow. Your milage may vary.
2) Keywords and filtering in C1Pro is still somewhat behind other software options, however it has made some serious strides forward in versions 7 and 8. If you do any reading on DAM, you will find a million different opinions on who should enter what keywords and metadata at what point and why. My current workflow and naming convention make the necessity for adding a lot of additional info onto each image largely unnecessary because it is all information that is cross referenced in another system.
3) Plugins functionality exists in Capture One, however, very few third parties seem to want to offer them. I have demoed the profoto plugin and think that it's pretty slick, just not the best tool for my workflow. If there are plugins that you would like to see, try contacting the companies who are making them for other software providers and see if they can work with Phase to offer it within C1Pro. They have stated in the past that they are open to this form of collaboration.
4) The brush is something that I personally think has the potential of being more dangerous in RAW than beneficial. I use it from time to time for very specific reasons, but overall feel that work is best left to retouchers. I do not want to see every tool and function of photoshop or lightroom or aperture built into Capture One. To me, these are separate tools to serve separate needs. I pay my bills by sticking to the realms of tethered capture and raw conversion. Everything else is more or less extraneous to me.
5) The process/export functions in Capture One are far more powerful than most people realize. I find it highly useful to be able to output different file types to different folders, use hot folders to upload jpegs automatically, etc. What makes the biggest difference though is what the files look like after processing. I believe Phase offers by far the best quality processed images and that is what I am charged with delivering.
6) You can make web contact sheets in C1Pro and have been able to for a long time. If you are really crafty, you can add personalization to the template as well.
7) Not sure what you meant here, maybe preview rendering? To be perfectly honest, I don't recall any huge difference other than in the past computers doing the work of rendering were a lot slower than computers today.[quote="CAPTURE NIKON D700" wrote:

I think the operative question is, "Is Capture One a better option for me in my current workflow?"
The answer to that is resoundingly yes. No matter if you go with Capture One or not, there is ZERO future in sticking with Aperture. It is a dead product and any additional time spent trying to hold on to a product that is being discontinued is wasted time in my opinion.[quote="CAPTURE NIKON D700" wrote:

Programs that are resource hungry like Capture One will often be the first ones to show issues. Along with that, every program has its own idiosyncrasies. This goes back to my workflow comment that no software program is going to fix a workflow. To add to that, workflows often have to be adjusted to recognize the gains that adding a piece of software offers. In order to get into any of this further I would need to know more about your business. This is why I asked you if you work or have worked with digital techs in the past.0
