Tehered shooting with 2 cameras?
I have a special workflow using 2 Nikon cameras (D3x and D5100) to shoot some products at different angles. I was expecting to be able to choose between both cameras in the Camera drop down menu, but I only see one of the cameras at a time.
The idea was to choose the D3x and make 2-3 shots, then choose the D5100 and make 2-3 shots, all shots should go to same capture folder.
Possible ??

Sorry, not possible.
The conflict is with the resources of the computer as appose to the software. As only one driver to run a Nikon Camera can be used at a time by the system, Capture One can then only manage the single driver.
The only solution is to use a different type of camera with a different Driver/communication protocol in order to support tethering two cameras at one time. For example a Nikon D5100 and a Phase One P45+ (USB driver and Firewire Driver) can be run at the same time as the USB driver does not compete with the Firewire driver.0 -
Thanks Drew for explaining this, as I was not sure but were assuming the driver conflict.
From my perspective of curiosity, could I use both a Nikon and Canon USB connection (hence different software drivers) or is the conflict at a lower (hardware) level?0 -
Okay, but I use 2 identical Nikon models (each calibrated) to shoot the same product in different angles.
Can I then use 2 computers each with CaptureOnePro and shoot from both into a session on a network drive?
Or any ideas?0 -

It's the System Driver not the software (Capture One, Canon or Nikon). So Nikon and/or Canon are still seen by the Computer as using *USB Camera Driver*, of which there is only one.
There is likely some solution out there with a basic redirect hack, perhaps running one as a USB 1.0 Driver and another as USB 2.0 but that sounds like a whole big can of worms I'd rather not speculate too much on.0 -

Sure, you could do that. Although you can't run the same session at the same time from two different machines. You could, however, make the same Network Folder the "Capture Folder" for each computers separate session. Ultimately it sounds a bit messy though.
I would suggest you take a look at Nikon's tethering software to see if it has a way of managing this limitation. I'd be interested to see what you find.0 -
I am aware of some software that allows for the control of multiple Canon cameras and their output from a single Windows computer. (Many models of dSLR and Powershot but by no means all of them.)
The same developer offers single camera remote control for recent Nikon dSLRs but not the multiple camera system. I would assume they would offer Nikon multi-camera if it was possible ... which leads me to think that there may be some technical challenges that are not easy (or perhaps not possible) to address at this point.
I have no idea whether this observation has any specific parallel with the tethered shooting requirement outlines in this post - but it seems likely that it might
