Help desperate 3.7.8 says pre-release has expired
Capture1 pro 3.7.8 is now saying "This pre-release software has now expired" It then asks to activate licence. I have tried activating the license 6-7 times which seems to work as it says the licence activtation complete but it keeps coming back saying "This pre-release software has expired". This is happening on all my workstations and has just suddenly started today 30Dec2009. I am desperate for a fix as i can't work.

Your story does not tell your history (has it worked activated for years...). The pre-release expiration is new to me, but maybe it is something with your software package.
Anyway, I suggest you to try this: go to the Phase One software archive for Windows page
http://xchange.phaseone.com/Content/Dow ... veWin.aspx
and download the software again. Scroll entirely down the page to find CO 3.7.8 and 3.7.9 Pro and install the software.
If that does not work for you download and install the Light version (CO 3.7.7 LE) also to be found on that web page. CO3 treats the Pro and LE versions different license wise.
In the mean time, create a support case for Phase One to help you out.0 -
I use C1 3.7.7 and today got the same message - "pre-release version has expired". This is funny "pre-release version"
First I activated the application again, than deactivated, then activated both - on-line and manually. All in vain.
I will return to this issue in January because have no more time today.
Anyway, it seems to me that I am not alone which can be a sort of consolation.
Regards

I am having the same problem and cannot get it resolved! I am working on an important project that must go to the publisher! I tried reactivating it, etc. with all the correct keys, etc as well as reinstalling! It has been active for a couple of years! 0 -
Gentlemen,
3.7.9 is the fix.

Thank you Drew for your fast response
But... I have a license for LE version and 3.7.9 is only Pro version. My license does not work. What about LE users? Should we quit 3.7 version altogether? Why? I prefer 3.7 version above any other raw converters I know (and frankly I know all of them). Phase One help the unfortunate LE users.
Best regards

Kris,
The immediate fix is to upgrade to Capture One 4, which your Key is good for (should be). Aside from that, you'll have to hang tight for a Capture One LE 3.7.9 release that should be available next week.
Sorry for the inconvenience.0 -
Thanks Drew
I 'll wait for 3.7.9 LE

When will we see a fix for the LE version as promised? Moving to 4 is not an option as the software is nowhere near as good as 3.7.x.

The week isn't over. Please be patient.
In the meantime you can contact us directly with a support case and we'd be happy to find a solution for you.

Thanks Drew, and sorry if I sound anxious. The last announcement seemed to indicate that there wouldn't be an alternative other than 4.x. I will contact support directly and hold on for a 3.7.9 LE release.
Thank,

Rob,
Do you have a case yet? I looked using your email as I wanted to follow up but haven't found anything.0 -

I just noticed the same issue with 3.7.7. I also uninstalled and reinstalled with the same pop-up and had to enter in the last 8 characters of the serial number, which it accepted until I closed 3.7.7 and relaunched the program and the pre-release note pops up again.
My concern and the only reason I didn't update to 3.7.8 is the one of the issues mentioned in the release notes is that "Images restored from trash cannot be processed"
This issue I cannot life with.
There are not release notes posted for 3.7.9
Will 3.7.9 process restored Images from trash?
Thanks very much!
Bill N0 -
Bill,
That same "Known Issue" is present in 3.7.7. So if you have been using 3.7.7 without that coming up as a show stopper then I think you'll be safe to upgrade to 3.7.9.0 -
Drew,
The 3.7.9 update did the trick, however when I brought files back from TRASH, they were unable to be processed. I found that if you close CO and reopen the program that these RAW files will be able to be processed. Thank you very much for your help.
I'm not sure but we may have met. If you last name starts with "M" and you lived in Minnesota a few years ago, and got me hooked on EIZO CG displays at a Capture One user meeting in Milwaukee, WI?
Any way thanks for your feedback!!!

Hi Drew, I am a LE 3.7.7 User since 2003 without any issues, I too have this error and installing 4.8.3 didnt help as it says I have no upgrades available, I raised a case earlier this evening. Please help with solution - are we still waiting for a 3.7.9 LE release ? if so any ideas on timescales

John,
I didn't see a support case for you since October. Regardless I looked into your Key, try to activate 4 it should work now.0 -
Drew
When are we going to see this promised cure for the expired pre-release nonsense? Your suggestion to use Ver 4 doesn't work on my laptop because it is out of date and doesn't have enough resources - it just crashes.
Right now I am forced to change the system date to 2009, convert the images, and then use a utility to change the file dates back to what they should be - really professional!
When do we see a proper solution? Or perhaps you could tell us where to find a third party hack that we can use to make the software work again?

I'm also anxiously awaiting a fix for this. I have tried both versions 4.x and 5.x, but to be honest that doesn't really cut it for me.... I see from other posts that you suggest that ppl open support cases for this, but do you really want everyone to do that? All we are asking for is a fix so our dear 3.7.x LE versions could return to normal. I have no trouble opening a case tho... just say the word.
Since the fix seems to drag out and perhaps be a little more complicated than you guys anticipated, perhaps another option, like converting our LE licenses to 3.7 Pro ones (which I understand isn't affected) , would solve the situation? I'm just thinking out loud here - maybe I'm asking for too much hehehe ...

not everyone likes later software as it consumes so much computer resources and is tediously confusing to use..... I will take my 3.7.9.... thanks 0 -
๐ I implemented the 3.7.9 fix and the ap is actually running better than 3.7.7 However <Del> sending to TRASH has the same problem 3.7.8 had. If you restore any trashed images back to your RAW or Capure folder, you will be unable to process the image. I found that closing and restarting the ap will enable you to process your image.
All in all it looks like we eill continue to use 3.7.9 on our five production machines. Why? Because the workflow is so darned efficient. The shortcut keys work so well on 3.7.9 for our minor image adjustments, then a simple <Right Arrow> anf you are on to the next image, leaving the cussed mouse behind. I never have to take my eye of the monitor. The transfer of settings is probably a little simpler in V3 than V5.
I have been using V5 on my oun. It's pretty complexed and is willtake time to get use to. So, I'll keep it on my i7 core and as I rebuild my other computers, will probably install V5 on them also. 5 really requires a multi core, but given that it is super fast. When I shoot school underclass V3 would take 120-140 minutes to process the batch. V5 can do the same batch in about 12 minutes. When I do use 5 I have to really focus, I keep screwing up with the short cuts.
I've been in this business for 36 years, if I did'nt have CapureOne, I would probably throw in the towel.
All the best!0 -

I agree. In addition, we purchased color profiles from Etc., for three camera bodies, and these profiles do not seem to work in 4.x (they produce very different colors than they do in 3.x). Also, image quality (color, banding, pixel level artifacts) in 4.x is not as good as 3.x. Finally, the workflow in 4.x is quite a lot more complex than 3.x, and for us, and probably every other working photographer, time is money.
When we purchased our two licenses of LE, there was no statement in the agreement that the license would expire in 2010. Although the software was not terribly expensive, we have come to depend on it and need it to continue working. If Phase One has decided against back-porting the time-bomb fix to LE, I hope they will consider offering LE 3.7.7 users a free or low cost one-time upgrade to Pro 3.7.9.

David, I have been using ETC profiles in CO4 without problems. I am not sure which version of 4.x you have used or tested but find image quality improved. CO5 has regained several beloved workflow features of 3.x, so maybe you like to try that version ever in the event of a new (and not supported) camera model and/or computer.0 -

Drew,
I am a 3.7.5 LE user. I have read all the threads on this forum, and have tried the download of 4.8.3 fix. However, my key will not allow me to use this version. I still cannot find the 3.7.9 LE update. I would actually prefer to use the 3.7.9 version if possible. I did open a case on this last week. However, I have received no reply regarding it. Any help you can give would be greatly appreciated.
Best of the new year to you,
Thomas Kneib0 -
Hi all... had the same problem with PRO 3.7.7. and thx to support, I've successfully got an upgrade to 3.7.9 and it works fine. It's also possible to process files from Trash (I already checked right now).
As many others, I'm planning to keep 3.7.9.0
