Nik Plugins do not start any longer
I am working with the Plugins of the NIK collection. So far no problem (besides it is annoying that everytime I have to direct C1 to the corresponding exectuable during export, but this is the old plugin story)
But I now installed the latest C1 update (13.1.1.31). And since that I get the error message "Connection with plugin failed. Please try again".
I restarted C1, I restartet my computer but to no avail.
Any ideas?

Win 10 - With "edit in" I used to get the list of Nik Plugins and Affinity Photo showing and they would show in preferences>plugins but no longer now I only get photomatix showing. 13.1.0 showed some of them but now with 13.1.1 it removed them, talk about buggy!

How did you change this? and are all of your plugins now listed when you "edit with" ?

The same problem with me.
I was able to observe the following with the default settings - Plugins - Open With plugin 1.0.1:
"Plugin-Einstellungen konnten nicht abgerufen werden." (Could not get plugin settings.)
Is there an incorrect configuration???
CP1 Version 13.1.1.31

Tried that but it did not work, I still see no plugins with edit and open with or in the preferences and then there is the raw file and a tiff file that I will need to open with other programs like Topaz and Affinity Photo. 13.1.1 killed all that.

I have the same problem with Edit with.
I use Nik plugins, it allows me to browse to the EXE
Then it creates the TIF variant
Then it pops up Connection with the plugin failed. Please try again

I've created a support request. Now we have to see when this will be fixed...

I had a s well and just got this back:
"Thank you for bringing this to our attention, we appreciate the time you’ve taken to contribute towards the development and maintenance of Capture One.
This is a bug and I have filed a report with all the details for the R&D team."
Meanwhile I have gone back to 13.1.0

Actually, it seems that the problem is not specific to the Nik plugins. It also happens with other external programs.

Yes for sure, for me its Affinity Photo, Topaz, Portrait Pro, Qimage Ultimate, Nik etc but other raw editors work fine with external programs.

I sent a new report about this to the support ...

OK, I tried the trick from Pavel Hubík above (in windows explorer, add the editors you need so they show up as one of the options to open a JPG/TIFF file) and it works. The only extra trick is that you need to close and re-open Capture One after you've done this but my external editors now work!

Pavel's trick fixes the external editors list building problem once the plugin could load correctly. However, this doesn't fix the other issue described here : https://support.captureone.com/hc/en-us/community/posts/360012189058-Loss-of-Plug-ins-in-C1-20-build-13-1-1-31 : Plugin settings could not be retrieved. This issue appeared with version 13.1.1.31.

Hi there,
I'm not sure that associating a program with jpg is a sustainable solution. The Open With plugin already tends to pick up any program in this case including those that have nothing to do with it.
Moreover, modifying the list manually is possible, except that each time we launch it again, C1 rebuilds its list as it wants, ignoring our personal choices.
Now, rewriting the code of this highly perfectible plugin would obviously be a good thing, but in the meantime, it would be a good idea not to touch any more the code that works in order to avoid this kind of programming errors.
Considering the random behaviour, a modification of this code should remain in the domain of the betas!0 -
Hi Pascal,
The mere idea of handling this feature via a plugin appears rather strange to me. Plugins are normally here to handle specific needs and situations. It seems that the C1 developers are considering that using external editors from C1 is is in the realm of the bizarre. Hey, what software do you think you're using, they say. It's C1, you don't need anything else. This feature should belong to the program itself. Anyway, it seems that the plugin cannot be disabled. So please P1, program it in a classical way, like in Lightroom.

Hi Patrick,
I agree with you! This plugin is at the heart of C1's features and as such, it should be an integral part of the software (and also his present behaviour must be considered as a major bug!). But that's also why it can't be disabled.
Yes, this part of the code should be re-analyzed cleanly. But in the meantime, out of pity for the end-users, that C1 should not touch the code anymore, even if it's badly done, waiting for something better designed and realized.0 -
I am getting the same problem with Topaz plugins. Someone mentioned rolling back to version 13.1.0, but is there anywhere I can get hold of that? I decided to upgrade today, and the only version I have downloaded is 13.1.1. Otherwise, I have to export and then load into the plugins running as "standalone" programs, which is a lot slower.

Roger,
> Someone mentioned rolling back to version 13.1.0, but is there anywhere I can get hold of that?
1. Go to the Phase One site and open your customer account.2. Click on Support in the top menu.
3. On the support page, in the "Software download and archive" box, click on "Go to software archive".
4. The first available download for your OS is the previous minor or major version whatever the previous version actually was. So, currently, it's version 13.1.0 (the current version being 13.1.1).

That was quick! Thank you. I have now done that and it appears to be working. I'll have to read the Release Notes more carefully before installing 13.1.2 when it comes out!
