5D IV "recording" error when tethered C1 12
Becoming quite an issue on shoots and I can't figure out where the issue is to resolve.
Situation. Shooting interiors with Canon 5D MkIV tethered to MacBook Pro with powered Tether Tools cable. There's a lot of resetting between shots, so can easily be 15-30 mins between shots on the same set (camera and laptop haven't moved, been switched off etc). Take shoot, can be using C1 to fire the camera or camera shutter, doesn't matter. No image received by C1, but also no image recorded to the card in the camera. Switch camera off and back on, and restart C1, message comes up the the back of the camera, "Recording", plus number of images (when shooting interiors, just one or two images), and a spinning wheel. Leave for a while, up to a minute, wheel keeps spinning till I pull the battery and have to retake the shot.
Canon 5D Mk IV Firmware 1.1.2
Capture One 12.1.1
OS 10.12.6 (I can't upgrade as my invoicing software is not supported above this OS)
MacBook Pro Mid 2012, 2.7 GHz, Core i7, 16 GB RAM, 2 X 1 TB SSD's SYS files on one SSD, the C1 folder I'm writing to on the second SSD that is kept as clean as Mac allows with just work files like Docs and photo files I'm working - normally max 1/4 full.
Tether Tools USB 3.0 Active Cable with TetherBoost Pro. All cables are TetherPro, the shortie into the camera, the long active cable and the powered TetherBoost Pro.
Any thoughts on where the problem is occurring? Camera, camera settings, C1, OS, computer, cable?
Many thanks!

Is this some sort of power saving time out setting somewhere? 0 -
There is one on the camera, "Auto power off" which we set to "disable", but that didn't fix the issue. Wondering if there are any others. 0 -

Power management rules definition on the Mac?
A guess - I know nothing about Macs.0 -
Looking more like it's a C1 issue. After talking with Canon I've been running the same camera with the same tether cable to the same MacBook Pro but using the Canon EOS Utility (that I really wouldn't use on a job) and replicating the same situations - leaving camera setup and on for 30 - even 2 hours without firing and it's all working well. I haven't had any disconnections or the "recording" error.
Capture One? I'd appreciate discussing this direct to troubleshoot. Is this a C1 to OS issue?0 -

If you want to discuss this with Phase One, submit a support case - this is just a user-to-user forum.

Hi Ian - appreciate that, but a lot of forums are also checked by manufacturers staff. FYI - I have sent in a support request.
In the meantime, would love to know if anyone else has experienced this or similar. Oftentimes users do have more extensive experience, especially in real world situations, than manufacturers have.0 -

Indeed, and sometimes C1 staff do participate here. But you can’t guarantee it.

Working through the chain here. If anyone else is having issues, there's some suggestion that switching off the WiFi connect on the camera may help - apparently there's been some conflict when tethering to Lightroom.
One of the weak points in my system may be the USB connection to the MacBook Pro. It's fine when on a desk, but when on set with crew, clients, stylists and everyone looking at the screen, it looks like the cord is getting pulled out slightly and disconnecting. This may may not be the whole story, but it's a part I want to address.
Any tips on ways to "lock" the USB tether cable into the laptop (other than gaffer tape)?
Thanks!0 -

You can get Jerkstopper devices (Tethertools for example). Might help.
I think they refer to the physical protection of the cable as connected to the port in the machine rather than implying any reference to the other people on set! 😉
