View menu, Browser Labels, Edit mode.
Now you can click on the file name in the browser and edit the name. Hope this helps.

For individual files, click on the file name in the browser and it becomes editable.

To rename multi images, command or shift click to select the images required and then control click one of the selected image and in the drop down select batch rename.

    Hello
In batch rename, job and image name the rename add a space after job. That is not the case when shooting.

I tryed to add date as job: Eg: 081128- but got 081128- filename (space after -)

Thats not ok, I do not want spaces in the file name.

Can this be done in some way?

Does not occur here. Don't want to offend you, but are you sure there is not space behind the job name? Double checked?

On Windows (CO 4.5.1 on XP) there is a space character indeed in the output naming options (Job Name, Counter etc.) that can not be removed. Bug, period. Reported already?

Thanks for the help with renaming captures, however, when I control click several images and select batch rename, the software will skip the first selected image and name the next one as 001, leaving the first with it's old name. Or if you have a group of images selected and you have, say, the 5th image highlighted, it will rename from that point onwards. Then, if you try to rename them back to your chosen name, an error message comes up saying that name is already in use!
Any ideas on how to simply select a group and have them all be renamed in order, without having to then backtrack and rename the first in the list?
    Thanks
    Lucas

The added space character in Capture One 4.5.x on Windows has been acknowledged as a bug and will be fixed in future releases.

This problem occurs only on Windows.

Lucas2: It seems that you are using Mac platform and therefore these two problems are not related. Quick testing revealed that batch renaming seems to be working fine on Mac, so the problem could lie elsewhere. Please create a case on our Support website so we could analyze the issue further and find a solution for you.
These forums are not as actively monitored and therefore by creating a support case you can ensure a timely resolution.

Why Oh Why, when will upgrades become logical - All I want to do is pull down a menu that says (Batch Rename) - job done. It worked fine in 3.7 for years. Please, when improving Capture in future, keep the poor end user in mind. Eddie

Thanks Lucas, Yes I have found the same problem - Highlight a batch for name change and the initial image is ignored. Would it be possible to change the image highlight feature colour in future - or is there an option to do this already?.

Is there a way to do a rename with a number not starting with 1. You could do that in 3.7

i would also like to rename and set the counter like in 3.7. also since we are on topic of renaming, upon import, i cannot start numbering with 4 or 5 digits. default seems to be three which creates problems after 999. this is upon importing from card. mark III files on mac pro 4.5.2 c1, any suggestions?

    Same problems on renaming.
Curent selection ignored and can't get the counter to start where and how I want : I like my counter to have 3 digits whatever frame I'm on. At this point the soft deals with it it's own way, I have to reach shot 100 to get what I want.
    PO4.5.2 on MacPro and 10.5.5

    Evening-

If I upgrade to 4.6 here to fix the silly space issue in the naming convention does that burn the last upgrade I have?

That space has been a very irritating feature since I upgraded- all I want is it gone.

Old misunderstanding I am afraid. Updates (not upgrades) does not burn or eat anything. Not even activations.

Thanks! That did it quite nicely.

-AND my little annoying space went away. Funny how some of the simplest things can really annoy you.

Updating to V 4.6.3 also resolved this problem in my case. I am glad I have used the search option in this forum extensively. 😄
