DNG: Does C1 automatically update DNG previews?

    Hi Tyler,

100% agree. Especially as Expression Media reads the embedded preview, which at the moment is an ACR preview. If Phase One believe Capture One 3 and Expression Media 2 are "Better Together" they should embed (and update) their preview in the DNG. Plus archive the Capture One settings.

I really hope the new Phase One EIP file format isn't supposed to replace DNG in Capture One.

OK, if you have 2 different raw converters and using both - should you expect 2 different previews stored in .DNG file (as you are storing 2 sets of settings in .DNG file, aren't you) ?

No. I'm using only one converter - C1 or ACR. And what I expect is to update the embedded preview after tweaking an image. ACR does, but C1 obviously does not. In my opinion this is a must if a product suports DNG. The same applies to handle metatada: All of my files include embedded XMP metadata and I expect C1 to respect these medata - that is to say the result of the conversion process has to include the same metadata as the original raw files.

No. I'm using only one converter

but software is created not just for you personally, there will be people who are using 2, may be 3 raw converters...

Of course. In this case the preview will be replaced by the last application which processed the specific image. So let's say I'm converting an image using C1 which creates an updated preview. After that I convert the same image using ACR which updates the preview again. I will - of course - lose my 1st preview generated by C1 as there can only be one preview in a DNG file.

Yes two, or more if you like. The DNG 1.2 specs allow for multiple renderings to be saved as well as thumbnails and previews. At the very least Phase One should update (i.e. over-write) the existing thumbnail and preview to match Capture One.

100% agree. I'd really appreciate a statement regarding this topic from the P1 product management.
