Search keywords not working

    Hi Adrian,

I think the search you are referring to is actually a search for a search rule set (if you see what I mean) not a specific search criterion.

For instance if you want to select all images with a specific keyword just open the lost of keywords available in the set you are looking at and select with the button beside the keyword. More than one keyword - select both words and so on.

Likewise you can set tags in the other meta data sections too.

The Search relates to prepared collections - data selections rules and filters - that you may have previous created and saved for re-use. There are defaults set up for ratings and colours.

However whilst it is a powerful search tool I find that what is happening is not always obvious. Maybe that's because I don't actually need to use its full capabilities frequently enough to make it properly familiar.

If you have not taken the opportunity to look through the Help that is available it might be worth doing so at this stage. It's quite comprehensive and a good introduction in my opinion. (In case it helps, look for the ? to the right of the Search entry field you have been using.)

If you have read and viewed through it and are applying what you believe to be the correct parameters for you needs in an Advanced search then things get a little trickier.

I think the people on the forum might need a fairly complete description of what meta data you have in the files, how the filter/Collection/(Advanced Search) is set up and what you are seeing on your screen in order to be able to relate well to what is happening. I know that sounds a pain but it may be the only way to assess what you are experiencing accurately enough to be useful.

    HTH.

    I'm in the same boat.
I've tried every possible method of searching by keyword and absolutely nothing happens.
How do you even get a list of existing keywords? I've gone into the filter tool, I see the keyword. If I click on it..a small orange dot turns on by the number of photos with that keyword...but no images appear.
If I type a keyword into the text search box, shouldn't that bring up the images? Does the search only go by file/folders or can I search "All Images"?
I've gone into Advanced Search, and specified "keyword' "contains" "example" and nothing happens.
I've double & triple checked that I have keywords in the metadata.
While stars & colors are a simple way of searching, I absolutely need keywords to work.
    HELP please!

I am not able to copy the behavior described here, but have one tip that could help.

When working with the Filters tool, you can select one or more filters (use the Alt+click on Mac to select more filters). Be aware however that CO7 can apply those multiple filters in an AND or OR fashion, or exclusive versus inclusive.
This is controlled from the Filters' context or action menu (small triangle at top right of tool). Deselect the setting "Results Match All Criteria" to make it inclusive.

    Thank you Paul.
This morning I was able to successfully use a keyword search using the filter functon. But the text box is completely dead.
I've put in a tech request for help.

    hi there,

this is frustrating. by default the search field is based on a rule to search "anything" (as in any metadata field per help) based on "contains". unfortunately the keywords are NOT part of anything in the phase one universe.... when i switch on the advanced filter and select keywords as search scope, the behaviour is as expected and the search results are fine.

why on earth is this not working correctly per default setting?

    annoyed,

    Hi Tim,

This is indeed weird. Keywords is the first thing the search was made for.
I looked into it and found that this is on Mac only. I have reported it as a bug to Phase One.

    Thanks for bringing this up.
