There is nothing really you can do in this case.
The preview is normally 25% size of the full RAW file so if you are looking at 100% of RAW it would be the same as taking a picture in to PhotoShop and blowing it up to 400%.
We always have to think of what is best for all users and balance Quality vs. Speed. This is not an easy balance.
Only thing I can recommend is to use side by side viewing the previews in 25/100 (25%of RAW/100% of preview) and compare composition and then use focus tool to check details.

    Thanks for the quick response.
Sometimes I just do a quick batch conversion at 8bit to hi-jpg and overlay them in photoshop to determine which one goes to delete and which to print!

But you see the bug, right? When you are looking at a single image and you zoom to 400% the image appears pixelated for a short time (presumably while a higher quality preview is generated) but then it snaps into focus.

When you zoom one or both of the images to 400% in side-by-side mode they never snap into focus -- the image remains pixelated and jagged indefinitely. It seems that zooming to 400% in comparison mode is broken.
