computer freezes1
Hi I am running C1 8.2 and I am getting my computer freeze up after exporting a finished image. I had two images do this in succession and I had to close the programme via the Task Manager. A third image exported without a problem, but now I'm worried that this scenario will continue for the near future. To be honest, unless I can find a reason for this (is it me or the software) I may have to move to Lightroom. Can anyone help?
I am running 64 bit Windows 7 Pro OS with an AMD FX (BLACK) six-core processor, and have 16 gig RAM installed.

Keith,
Is it possible that the system is presenting you with a question box for a response but that you cannot see it for some reason? (Either it does not "pop up" or the box is displayed off screen - not uncommon if running multiple screens sometimes but not always.)
Realistically without an in depth knowledge of your system set up and what you are doing in your export process pretty much anyt responses you get here (it's a user to user forum after all) will be speculation and guesswork.
Much better would be to create a Support Case with the Capture One support team and send the logs they will ask for so that someone who knows what to expect form the logs can try to explain what is going on. That would be better for you and, potentially the Capture One development team as well if it transpires there is a problem somewhere.
I'm running Capture One 8.1.1/8.2 on a Win 7 Pro system but with Intel i7 (mobile version as it's a notebook) and I don't see the problems you describe with Processing to Output - which should be much the same as Export when dealing with a finished image. (What file type for the finished image by the way? Is it for display or printing or passing to another application? Etc.)
HTH.

Hi Grant,
The file type was a Tiff, which I use after exporting, independently of Capture for various files including high and low res JPEGS . My work flow is very small as a hobbyist and so the programme is not used in a professional capacity, so I don't tend to use all of the programme's facilities. As I have always done, without any issues before, when I'm ready to export I usually right click on the image to be exported and choose export and variant. I fill out the on-screen form and then click export. I normally get the file export indicator on screen and then the 'exported successfully' message when it has finished. Both times the screen froze, the export indicator finished but no 'exported successfully' message appeared, although the files had reached their destination folder OK. When I do get the message that export was successful there is no freeze up.
Kind regards

Hi Keith,
OK, I have just checked the process you follow.
If the pop up window fails to appear for some reason the application may appear to hang as it is waiting for a response from the user. This is sometimes (usually? but I would not like to state that categorically ....) reported if you head off to Task Manager to do something to kill off the process.
Sometimes the pop up fails to appear on top of the current window and can be sitting behind it (but difficult to get to if the window cannot be minimised).
As it happens I had something like that happen yesterday but not using Export - I normally use Process. There were indications that the application was awaiting input (presumably acknowledgement of the process completion) but it was not at all obvious where that little window may have been found. There may have been some conflict with another pop-up window being presented by a different application.
One to watch and perhaps report via a Support Case if it persists and especially if a pattern becomes evident.
Meanwhile I would commend the Process recipes to you if you ave not looked at them much. I would guess that could set up a standard output or two that would make your variant exports simpler. There is no end of process confirmation pop up.
HTH.

Thanks once again for your quick reply, Grant.
I will keep an eye on this and report it as you suggest if it happens again. I am also in touch with David Grover via the Fuji X Forum, but have yet had a reply from him. I will look into the process recipes as you suggest and in the meantime will save your reply to a word document so that I can quickly read it again if I need to.
Kind regards...Keith0
