Import RAW files only from card, not JPG

I often have to shoot JPG's as well as RAW files while using Cam Ranger so my clients can view images on an iPad.

How can I set C1 so I only import the RAW files, not the jpg's that were only needed for review during shooting?

    You can hide JPEGs by selecting from the menubar.
    View > Global Filters > Always hide JPEGs

    If you didn't want to have to toggle this you could sort in the Import dialog using Extension in the dropdown menu, select your RAWs and then import.

    One way would be this. In the import dialog box, there is a drop down menu for specifying the order in which the images are displayed. If you set it to Extension, the raws would be separate from the jpegs, and you could select from the first to the last raw only before clicking the import button.

    Just to be clear, the jpgs are, essentially, trash, after the shoot. They're only used during the shoot so client can review the shots during the shoot on an iPad. So I don't want to waste time and HD resources downloading, sorting and then trashing them.

    The big problem with using Extension from dropdown menu to sort the files into RAW and JPG's, is that during a large lifestyle shoot that may include several thousand files, the files are then sorted by file name rather than date shot. If the starting number sequence in camera is high (say 9000 when I'm shooting 2,000 files), the files are imported out of time order, which is of course, important.

    Once imported, can I then resort the RAWs into time shot order so they are in sequence?

    Yes you can sort them into time order after import. You can even have C1 rename them as it imports them with part of the file name including the date and/or time of capture. I do this so that my file names go something like

    2016-08-18 0023.NEF

    (So capture date plus a counter.) If you included capture time as well the names would sort well into time order. But even without renaming, you can sort images in a huge number of different orders, like name, date, focal length, ISO, shutter speed and many more.

    Also, if your camera does this and has more than one memory card, can you get the camera to direct raws to one card and JPGs to another?

    There is also a filter option to consider.

    Create and save (for future use) a non-global filter/search based on Extension and the Import process will then work only with those files.

    I assume this is available on MAC, it is when using Windows.
