Rejects ?
In a referenced library of C1 -
When removing images from a project "remove from catalog" they are removed and lost forever.
When doing so from an album - the Originals still remain in the database. Is there a way to "call" them back later from reject land - so they again become visible in the album/project ?

Yes, just drag&drop them from the "All images" collection to any album/project you want.0 -
Thanks. I was hoping for an Aperture like solution , whereby the images you remove from a project or an album ( as rejects ) - stay clustered together and are sitting in a "holding Bin" and not moved to the trash. That allows you to reconsider by easily accessing them all at a later time. This is especially useful if you remove many images at once. Perhaps there is no such option in C1. 0 -
There's a "Trash" collection, but I have to admit I've never used it. 0 -

This was my workflow in Aperture. Rejects were not shown in the Browser by default, but stayed in the Project (I always used "one Project = one shoot"). I never removed the rejects until the Project was "done" and ready to be "archived" (both in quotes to emphasize that these are elastic and not fixed terms). I _never_ store anything in any computer Trash (I empty it every day, often more than once — in my practice, unless a file was accidentally deleted, there is no reason to review the contents of any Trash).
C1P does not have any reject tag, flag, or metadatum. I'm looking into alternatives (either to reproduce Aperture's workflow, or to replace it). There are, as I'm sure you've considered, several ways to reproduce this. One in particular I am considering is to mark all Variants as 1-star on import. Then mark rejects with 0-stars, and filter the containers to show 1-star or better. When it's time to trash the rejects, they will be easy to find, and of course will always be grouped with the rest of the recordings from the shoot.
Note that C1P was written with studio recording in mind, and designed to use Sessions, not Catalogs (which were tacked on in C1P7). In the Sessions workflow (afaict), there is a dedicated Finder folder for rejects (separate from the C1P Trash and from the System Trash).0 -
My Aperture workflow was similar to yours.
Not sure what you mean by reproducing the Aperture workflow in CP1. Will you elaborate on that please.
I'm certain other Aperture orphans will be interested as well. I acknowledge the fact that CP1 is a different beast and I try not to compare it too often. Still, clearly some of the features present in CP1 are modelled after Aperture and so even though we've moved on - There is always that instinctive reach to look over the shoulder and model the current CP1 workflow on the now defunct Aperture.
The Idea of using one star as default on import is one I will be giving some thought, seems like a solution .0 -
I use the red color tag to mark rejects. It's bound to the 'X' key. I also have preset filters and smart albums that filter for the red tag.
My current culling method is as follows.
- After import, go through the images. The ones that are really beyond repair get an X. The ones that I want to further inspect get a 1 (rating 1 star). The ones I'm undecided on remain unrated and untagged.
- I then select the preset filter "1 or better" and repeat the process. Some images will be promoted to 2.
- Select "2 or better", then repeat the process with promoting (and sometimes demoting) until I'm down to reasonable selection.
- I review the untagged/unrated images by selecting a preset filter "untagged & unrated". Sometimes a picture may be promoted to a 1.
- At the end of the review, all unrated images get an X.
- When I'm sure everything is backed up, I will delete the rejects, either from the smart album, or from within a project or album using a preset filter.
I do mis Aperture's built-in behaviour for rejects (actually, I do miss Aperture for more than just that), but the filter presets do present a reasonable alternative. I wish they were easier to select using a keyboard shortcut, though.
Cheers,

Hi Peter,
Looks like you have no issue deleting photos from within projects or albums. How do you do this? When I right-click on an item in an album I only see the option to "remove from album". It's only when I'm browsing the "All Images" collection that I see the option to "move to trash". This is in 9.1.2 Express.0 -

You're right, it doesn't work from within an album. I got confused somewhere...
However, it does work from within the smart album, but then I'm using a catalog with referenced files. I select all files and then hit Cmd-Del (Remove from catalog) and then select "Move to trash" in the resulting dialog box. This puts the image in the system trash.
I don't know whether that works in sessions.
Sorry for the confusion (and false hope 😊

Thanks. Always interesting to learn how others are using CO.0
