Check that you use the Clarity tool for local adjustments (the one with the small brush to the right of its name) and not the global Clarity tool.

If it isn't a Local Adjustment tool, you can make it one via the ellipse (...) dropdown menu, then select Adjust Selected Layer

Thank you very much - it worked.

But I can't change the method, it is greyed out and stays "natural".

    Is that normal, too ?

What is the processing engine used for your picture (in the Base Characteristics tool)?

You can't have a different clarity method on a local adjustment from the one used for the image as a whole. So if you want to use say "Punch" as the clarity method you have to set that as the method for the image as a whole while you are on the Background layer. Then when you switch to your adjustment layer it should show the method you have chosen (but still greyed out).

Thanks a lot for your support - it helped and now I'm understanding the tool a bit more =)
