    dmccroskey,

We can suggest a few things that you can try out in order to get the highest achievable quality from this scanner generation.

    1) You can always check if the camera is performing correctly simply by doing a scanning out of the window in daylight. Daylight or sunlight for that matter is flicker free and will give the scanner a flicker free input. Try this and the bends/stripes will disappear. If they are still there the scanner is defective. The bends/stripes i am referring to here are all horisontal. Vertical lines 1/2 pixel wide are dust.

    2) Use the lowest ISO setting possible. Makes the back less sensitive to unstable light.

    3) Use only tungsten/halogen lightning and be sure that the power to the lamps are stabalized. This lightsource is the most recommendable and causes less problems such as bends/stripes. (try also step 1 here).

Also see the KB article #1233 re: Shortening scan times

These few suggestions can optimize the scans from the scanner but of course these scanners are from another generation and we have today completely other quality parameters which are much higher. However at that time these scanners performed very well which i also expect these scanners to do.

    Sincerely,
