Can't create shortcut for Auto Levels adjustment?

You did not mention the shortcut, but if CO8 says it is used elsewhere, it probably is. Note that not only the CO8 shortcuts are checked but the OS X shortcuts too.

    Hi Paul,

    Thanks for the reply! 😊

I tried setting the keyboard shortcut for Auto Levels to be "command-8". That's not what I really want but it is for experiments sake. Nothing else seems to use that sequence. The keyboard shortcut configuration screen does not acknowledge my entry. It won't say that it is used by anything but it also won't accept it. The field stays blank. When I check the "Adjustments->Auto Adjustments" menu I see that the Auto Levels function is checked and my shortcut of command-8 is shown next to the text.

I randomly set my levels to something disastrous so that Auto Levels can fix it. Let C1 move the limits of the shadow and highlight points to the end of each channel's histogram. I press command-8 and nothing happens. ☚ī¸

    Pretty simple problem, here!

Your command-8 shortcut is simply enabled/disabling the option to auto-adjust the levels in addition to the other auto-adjustments.

Your best workflow is to go to Adjustments > Auto Adjustments and make sure only the 'levels' option is ticked.

Then map 'Auto Adjust' to command-8

This should do what you're looking for.

    Cheers!

    Hi Grant,

Thank you for the reply! 😊

    I followed your procedure and I think I found a bug! 🤓

I have my Auto Levels set to adjust the individual R, G, and B channels when applying Auto Levels. This was set in the Preferences screen under the Exposure tab (i.e. the "Channel Mode" is set to "Red, Green, and Blue Channels"). When I click on the Auto icon in the levels tool (i.e the "A" in between the "?" and the diagonal arrows) the function works as it should. When I apply Auto Levels with the shortcut procedure you mention the Auto Levels is applied to the collective RGB channel - not the individual R, G, and B channels. The individual R, G, and B channels are completely untouched. ☚ī¸

I would think that the Auto Adjust shortcut code in C1 should apply Auto Levels as configured in the Preferences->Exposure screen?

    Thanks!

Yes, see the same behaviour here. C1 8.1 does not apply the individual channel levels when using Auto, you need to click the Auto button in the levels tab.

    Hi meanwhile,

So it's not just me then. At least I know I'm not crazy. 😉 I will try to raise this issue with the technical support screw. Hopefully the software developers can fix this in a future update.

I submitted a Tech Support case on this question and got a reply from Phase One very quickly. 😎

The Auto Level keyboard shortcut only operates on the combined RGB channel. It will not follow the configuration setting in the Preferences->Exposure screen. This is by design so that there are separate ways to manipulate both the combined RGB channel and the individual R, G, and B channels.

If I were an omnipotent and all mighty software practitioner 😉 then I would have done it differently. I will take this as "a quirk" of the software. 😊

Guys, come on, this is just a bug. There are already separate ways to manipulate both - you can change the global setting in the preferences. If I say I want to adjust individual channels, I mean that I want to adjust individual channels - not the combined channels.

    Even "It's not a bug, it's a feature" has it's limits. 😊

    @meanwhile,

I agree with you that this could/should be considered a bug in the system. However, I have seen even goofier features in industrial equipment that leaves me scratching my head. When I would talk to the technical development teams about what I thought were bugs or odd methods of navigating through menus I was given very detailed and in-depth explanations of the thought process behind it. The problem was that the industrial equipment and software was designed by engineers for engineers vs. designed by engineers for operators. I don't think Phase One has this problem too much because of input from professional photographers. If Phase One were to gather a group of well practiced enthusiasts instead then I think Phase One would have a complete different product. Personally, I think it would be even better!

So, anyways, I will let this "feature" slide for now.
