How to remove flare?
Has anyone a pointer to some info on how to use Capture One to remove flare?
I sometimes have no option but to include sharp light sources in a picture and inevitably get flare. This is e.g. common in dark cellars with strong overhead lighting.
Typically the flare is then purple or green spots against a fairly even brownish surface (e.g. the ceiling).
Sometimes it is easy to remove the flare by selecting the flare colour and reducing the saturation. This works well if the background surface is greyish.
But if the background colour is not grey, say brown instead, it does not work. Then I get grey spots against a brown surface. Not good.
Is there a way in CO to select the flare colour and change it to another colour? I have looked but not found. Spot removal can sometimes work but it does not work well if there is some structure in the surface.

I would go to the Levels tool and adjust the black point. If the flare is colored, for example from a spotlight, go to the respective Red, Green and Blue Levels and adjust the black point for that color.
I have been pretty successful in removing flare and strong color cast due to strong lighting in the image.0 -
Thanks Paul. Not sure how I would do that. Do you have some pointer to some online info on how to? 0 -
A Phase One tutorial on Levels and Curves in CO7 can be found here.

The feature of adjusting separate color channels in not covered in detail but it is mentioned. Please let us know whether you need further assistance.0 -
Thanks. I am fairly familiar with both levels and curves and a little also on a per channel basis (although I never really use it per channel currently).
I played around with the per-coulour levels and black points on two images, one with green and one with purple flare. But I could not get it to do anything useful against the flare. (It did make a lot of other changes to the image of course...) 😕0 -
Per,
Have you already looked at the colour editor in a local adjustment ?
I think there is some potential but nothing quite the same as a large change of colour. (Depending on how large large may need to be!)

Local adjustment was the first thing I tried but Colour Editor did not work as a local adjustment layer.
Now, trying it again, I discover that *Advanced* Colour Editor actually does work as an LA layer. But the only thing I seem to be able to do there is adjust the Hue (and saturation and lightness) and that does not seem to give enough latitude to correct for the flare. It just tweaks the flare colour a little bit and that is not enough unfortunately. I'd need something that actually replaces the green (or purple) spots with the brown background colour.
So, so far Photoshop clone stamp (or other PS tool) seems to be my only option.0
