upgrade activation?

When you buy an upgrade from CO6 (for example) to CO7, your CO6 key will be disabled and you get a new CO7 key. Compare this process with buying a new full license of CO7. That will give you the CO7 key, but retain the CO6 key.

However, do not panic. Your CO7 key also allows you to activate earlier versions like CO6.

So, this is your course of actions.
    - buy the upgrade
    - deactivate CO6, activate with new key
    - rename Capture One to Capture One 6
    - install CO7 and rename the app to Capture One 7
    - activate CO7

I haven't tried and tested this scenario yet. Currently have both CO6 and 7 installed, with different keys however.

ok thanks - however I think I'll keep v7 on a separate machine then. I was hoping the activation was held somewhere else (like when you update v6, it doesn't require another activation, as I assume the key is stored in the preferences in the user library). So I was *hoping* that I could run both on the same computer (but not at same time) to test (by renaming v6, as you suggested) but still be able to run 7. I understand that the preferences could get wonky jumping back and forth, but I would keep a copy of the prefs for each version, and replace them based on which version I was going to use.

You can have both CO6 and CO7 activated on the same system. The activation is not stored in the preferences. The preferences for CO6 and CO7 are stored in separate files, so no need to keep a copy apart (this in contrast to CO4, 5 and 6).
