C1Pro 8.3.1-4 / Canon will not tether to Mac Pro (late 2013)
OSX 10.9.5
6 core Xenon 3.5GHz
16GB RAM
Canon 1Dx (have tried several)
Have tested versions 8.3.1 through 8.3.4 and all give a similar result. The camera tool just spins and eventually gives a message saying that it can not attach the camera. At times the make/model of the camera will show up but it never fully connects. When I run through the turn off, turn on with the software running it gives the same result or just crashes. If I turn the camera off and restart the software it goes back into the same failed connection routine described above.
I opened a ticket on this a while back. The camera was blamed, even though I said that I had tried multiple bodies and that if I reverted to an older version every body worked, and the ticket was unceremoniously closed.
So the ultimate question: Is anyone running C1Pro 8.3.1, 8.3.2, 8.3.3 or 8.3.4 with a Canon 1Dx on a Late 2013 Mac Pro successfully? If so, what OS version are you using? Did you encounter any of these issues I have described? I keep having the suspicion that I am missing something fairly simple that is going to solve the problem.
Thanks in advance!

I am pretty sure that the new 8.3.4 version has degraded the teetering capabilities. I have changed nothing in my workflow. Not the Camera D800E not the cable (teether tools) nor the computer. All I did was just a simple upgrade but now... teetering is not as rock solid as it was before. On an average session it will loose sync at least 3/4 times. Take the battery out, unplug reset the camera and it comes back. AGAIN I have NOT!! changed anything from my previous workflow, where everything was working flawlessly.
It is either 8.3.4 or El capitan but if so than 8.3.4 should not have been certified 😄0 -

While i'm not denying you have problems with tethering, but would you think that posting the exact same text in two topics is very helpful to other users?0 -

Mac Pro 2013 (Trash Can Edition)
OSX 10.10.5
Capture One Pro V8.3.4
For me, both Canon and Phase are tethering without issue, and honestly 8.3.4 has been running substantially more reliably for me than anything since version 8 was initially released to be totally honest. I've had significant improvements of stability on both my Mac Pro Tower as well as my Macbook Pro (circa 2014) - so I'm inclined to think the issue is with your machine, cables, powered hub (you are using a powered hub aren't you?) or OS rather than Capture One.
The only open issue I'm having is the (known and documented) problem with Yosemite & El Capitan not allowing CMD+K to trigger capture to Phase bodies. Unfortunately this is an unresolved issue due to changes with OSX, not Capture One so it's a bit of a waiting game.0 -
Thanks brianmerwin. What Canon are you running?
I am hard pressed to believe that it is an issue with a single machine because we have replicated the issue on half a dozen MacPro trashcans, a dozen 1Dx bodies and every combination of cable/extender/hub/repeater I can think of. The only major difference I see is that you are running Yosemite, that is basically the only remaining difference I need to verify. Just to be clear, I have put this version on macbook pros (2011 17") macbook pro retina (mid 2012 15"), etc and it has tethered up without issue. There just seems to be something about this combination of hardware/software that doesn't seem to want to play together.0 -
Ever since 8.3 (introduction of colour wheels / battery preview) the 1DX has been problematic on Mac Pro 6,1. On some shoots it works for a while then it crashes, on others it doesn't work at all. As soon as you go back to 8.2x its flawless.
All other camera's seem fine, including canon 5D MK II, MK III. It's the only thing keeping me from upgrading from 10.9.5 to 10.11.1, as 8.2 is not compatible with el capitan.0 -
I discussed the same issue here:
viewtopic.php?f=55&t=20563
This is on a MP running 10.9.5, a 1Dx and C1P 8.3 and up.
I believe its an issue with the MP video cards and 10.9.5. Its on a client machine so I haven't had a chance to update to 10.10 but I believe that will solve the issue. Apple doesn't update GPU drivers independently - just with OS updates unfortunately.0 -
Thank you for your replies Edward51 and LSdigi
I was able to pull a machine and test 10.10.5 today and it worked perfectly. I swapped the same exact camera/cable/lens to a identically configured machine running 10.9.5 and it refused to connect. It appears as if it is connecting and then just beach balls.
I guess I am surprised that this issue never made the release notes in any version of 8.3, as these are fairly common cameras and computers.0 -
So I guess we need to be on Mac 10.10 to tether with Canon properly, not 10.11.
I'll be taking a client's MP2013 home to update it to 10.10 in the next few days. Need to find a link to 10.10 not .11 as I see its already off the mac app store.0 -
I have been digging a bit into this with the 1dx we have in-house. I can only make this happen with rapid disconnections/connect cycles, meaning the root-cause is likely to be a bad cable, and then a CO-submodule can, in some rare instances, have problems recovering.
We need some more info from You guys. If You can reproduce the problem, use the File Packager script in CO (found the Scripts menu in the top menu, Mac only), run it and send the resulting zipped log-file package in a Support Case. Remember to thoroughly describe what you did to make it happen.0 -

I am looking for a disk image of 10.10.5 - anyone have one they can post for me somewhere? I can't get it from the App Store anymore and other places seem dodgy.0
